Las Vegas (Gardens) Hotel & Casino

With around 10,000 people and about 84 miles from Belize City, is the town of Corozal. The town came into being back in 1840, and perhaps one of its key points, is its easy access to the Mexican border, just 8 miles away. Over the border, you can find Chetumal, with its international airport and 300,000 people. While Corozal may be a rather small town, it still lies within beautiful Belize. They host a casino with a healthy selection of games. The night life here is rather quiet, but there are a few local bars. Consider planning a day or weekend trip going over to Belize City with its greater selection of things to do.

The casino opened its doors in 2006 and also contains the hotel and an entertainment complex. At 54,000 sq ft. it’s also the largest of its kind in Central America. They offer 500 classic and video slot machines and video poker terminals as well as 21 table games which include blackjack, mini baccarat, super dragon nine, Asian poker, Mexican poker, road to riches and roulette. The casino also runs live poker games and has nightly bingo. Eating and drinking venues can be found on site.

Hotel/Accommodations

The Las Vegas Gardens Hotel offers 106 rooms and suites and on site you can find a business centre for internet and fax needs, meeting rooms, a fitness centre, a swimming pool, beauty salon, and a pool bar. The hotel is part of the same complex which houses the casino and entertainment complex. Spend some time getting to know the staff so you can get tips on some of the lesser-known local attractions, and suggestions on where to eat and look for night life.

Dining

Players at the casino can enjoy a free buffet from 9:30 pm until 11 pm. Different nights carry differently themed dinners, with such varied cuisines as Chinese, Mexican and international. You can also find an international restaurant on site and a food court with varied fare. Ask staff about any eateries nearby that are popular with locals and tourists to try an even greater array of Belizean cuisine.

Entertainment/NightLife

Outside of the casino, this is a rather small and sleepy town but there are a few bars if you’re interested in going out evenings. Try the bars located in other hotels and inns such as Tony’s Inn and Beach Resort, the Corozal Bay Inn, the Mirador Hotel or one over in the Cactus Plaza. There's also the pool bar in the hotel. During days, hit some of the local Mayan sites like the Xunantunich or the Altun Ha. If you’re staying a while, it might be worth driving into Belize City, 84 clicks away, where’s there’s more night life and many more attractions and activities, or cross the border over into Mexico. Perhaps the ample selection of slots and games at the casino combined with the swimming pool in the hotel are enough to keep you suitably occupied. Relax poolside at the pool bar enjoying your favourite cocktails for even more R and R. It never hurts to talk to staff about any lesser-known attractions in the area, historic sites or interesting architecture. Ask about any local celebrations and festivals as well.
