San Salvador, with its approximate half a million people is the 5th largest city in Central America, and capital city of El Salvador. If you include the surrounding metropolitan area, reaching a population of about 2 and a half million, you’ve the second largest city in C.A. However you choose to do the math, if you’re here on holiday, there’s plenty of things to do to keep you occupied, with its restaurants and bars and various attractions. Highlights include the National Palace, the National Museum of Anthropology and the Metropolitan Cathedral. The city also houses the Council of Ministries, the Legislative Assembly and the Supreme Court.

The casino/card-room first opened its doors in 2008 and is dedicated to providing players with a Texas Hold’em poker experience, with its live cash games, sit n go’s and tournaments across 10 tables. The Hold’em Club de Las Americas is open daily from 2 pm until 5 am. and is the only of its type in the country. Ask about their freerolls held each Thursday. The casino/card-room has a bar, snack bar, private and VIP tables and runs in USD currency. If you’re a fan of poker, this is the destination for you, as you try your hand against the best players across El Salvador.

Hotel/Accommodations

There are no hotels on site, but just over 2 km from the card-room/casino you can find the Eco-Hotel Arbol, with its 19 rooms. The hotel’s goal is to operate in an eco-friendly environment, conserving both water and energy. Free internet access is provided and there is a spa on site. There are several other inns and hotels across the city, so seek out the ones closest to the attractions you intend to visit as well as those most in line with your budget and comfort levels. Use your time at the hotel to get information on all the best places to visit nearby and help arranging tours and renting vehicles.

Dining

There are no dining facilities in the hotel, although there is a snack bar in the card-room. For a selection of menu items like sandwiches, salads and pasta head to La Ventana, also with vegetarian options. Mexican fare is served in Los Tacos de Paco, also with poetry readings on Wednesdays. Easy eats and occasional live music are found in Tipicos Margoth. For a broader selection of restaurants, walk along Zona Rosa, or tour the city finding your own new favourite venues. Ask hotel staff to point you in the direction of places popular with locals and tourists.

Entertainment/Nightlife

When you want to go out dancing, try Elements, with DJs spinning popular tunes, or Pueblo Viejo, with its Latin dancing and live music Thursday through Saturday, also serving food. Tour along Zona Rosa where you also find a selection of bars. During days, visit any number of attractions located throughout the city. For history, culture and architecture, some sites include the National Palace (built in 1866 and again in 1905 after a fire), the National Museum of Anthropology (Museo Nacional de Anthropologia), the Metropolitan Cathedral (Catedral Metropolitana de San Salvador) and the National Theatre (Teatro Nacional de El Salvador). Check out various landmarks like the Gerardo Barrios statue in Plaza Gerardo Barrios, the Morazan statue in Plaza Morazan, and the Monumento de los Heroes in Plaza Libertad.

Rewards/Deals

The casino does not have a player rewards system in place. They do however run freeroll tournaments. Ask staff about dates and details.
