Dax is a town in south-west France and is located in the department of Landes and the region of Aquitaine. Locals are referred to simply as ‘Dax’. The city was originally named Aquae Tarbellica (Tarbelles waters), then Acqs, and finally Dax. The area is noted for its bull-fighting, rugby and its warm waters. If you don’t mind the short drive, about 30 km out, you can find the beaches of Landes. If you plan on sticking closer to home, things to visit include the façade of Cathedral of Dax, the remnants of the Gallo-Roman walls, an ancient Roman archaeological crypt, and various churches and buildings of architectural interest.

Gaming

The casino offers 75 classic and video slot machines and video poker terminals, ranging in various denominations. For added thrills, try one of their 2 national jackpot machines. You could walk away France’s newest jackpot winner! Table games consist of 2 blackjack tables. The casino may provide humble offerings as compared to some of their brethren, but when on your whirlwind tour of southern France, sometimes all you really want is somewhere to unwind and take in a relaxing session of gambling.

Hotel/Accommodations

There are no hotels on site. Stay at the Hotel Dax Thermal, nestled within a scenic wooded park, and just 400 m from the city centre and near the casino. The hotel offers 127 rooms equipped with balcony, television and free wireless internet access. Their restaurant provided a varied menu, showcasing regional and traditional cuisine. Within the same complex as the hotel, you can find The Spa when you want extra pampering or therapeutic treatments. You can find a bar on site. The hotel welcomes your furry travel companions.

Dining

Dine in Palco, the Casino Barriere de Dax restaurant. Dinners consist or regional and classic French cuisine. Enjoy your meals indoors on the terrace seasonally. They invite you to book your next business meeting or special event. DJs, cartoonists and themed nights are available upon request. Back at the hotel, they have their own on-site restaurant, also serving traditional and regional fare. Nearby restaurants include Chez Babeth and Bar Darrigade.

Attractions/Nightlife

Find your favourite cocktails in the hotel or casino bar, or choose from among several bars and clubs in town. Options include Bar Darrigade, Le Bodegon, L’Atmosphere, and Le Why Not, the latter ideal for dancing. Spend time in various parks like the Parc du Sarrat or the Theodore Denis Park. Dax Arena, built in 1913 and upgraded in 1932, has organized bull-fighting. Come in August for Dax Celebration or during the Festival Toros y Salsa in September. The Hot Fountain, or Source of Nehe (the Norse goddess of waters) was built back in the 19th century on the (assumed) site of ancient Roman baths. For architecture, visit some of the older buildings, hotels and manors, such as the Hotel Chievre (17th century), the home of St Vincent de Paul (17th century as well), Hotel Neurisse, now the Town Hall (18th century), and Banque de France (also 18th century). Religious sites include the Church of St Theresa of the Child Jesus de Berre, the Façade of Cathedral of Dax, and the Church of Saint-Vincent-de-Xaintes. Other attractions include the Gallo-Roman walls remains and a Roman archaeological crypt.
