Les Sables d’Olonne is a sub-prefecture of the department of Vendee and the region of Pays de la Loire. It's the principal city of the Cote de Luniere, noted for its fishing ports, regional trades and crafts and as a tourist destination due to its spa/resort. There are three different ports in the area, and popular catch for the fishing port include cod, sole and squid. This would be a good time to take advantage of various seafood meals. Dining

Dine at Le Cotton Club, open for lunch and dinner daily from noon to 2 pm and 7 pm until 10 pm. The bar/pub is open Wednesday through Sundays, and daily during summer months. Other venues include La Pilotine, with seafood items like salmon, clam and monkfish, Le Sloop, for more seafood, and La flambee, a contemporary bistro.

Attractions/NightLife

Find your favourite cocktails in The Cotton Club, open Wed-Sun or daily in the summer. Look for various themed nights. Pineapple Café opens its doors at 2 pm. Other venues include Igloo Igloo (Saturdays Nov-Mar), Refuge Club, L’Entracte Café, Le Retro, and Le Tribeca. Visit the Castle of Pierre, built in the 18th century. Religious sites include Notre-Dame de Bon-Port, the Chapel of Our Lady of Good Hope (1850), the Holy Cross Abbey Museum, the Abbey of Saint-Jean Orbestier (7th century) and the Priory Saint Nicolas. Other areas of interest include the Shell Museum, the salt marshes of L’Ile d’Olonne, Chateau St Clair, the Inter-Conservatory of Music Olonnes, and the zoo of Sables d’Olonne. You can also wander through various parks and gardens, visit the harbour and ports, check out various lighthouses and head to the beaches.
