Flic en Flac Casino

In the Riviere Noire district on the western side of the island lies the resort village of Flic en Flac, which in turn is the home of Flic en Flac Casino. The name is thought to come from the Dutch 'Fried Landt Flaak', meaning ‘free and flat land’. Locals and tourists alike flock to the white sand beaches with its crystal clear water, coral reef and lagoon. Hotels, strip malls, shopping centres, restaurants, bars and clubs have all risen to meet the need. It might have taken some of the charm away from this quaint seaside town but visitors won’t be lacking for entertainment.

The Flic en Flac Casino, sometimes known as Arena Casino (the Arena Night Club used to share an address) is a small, basement casino with simple offerings, having just 55 slot machines and video poker terminals and 9 table games consisting of 4 roulette, 3 blackjack and 2 Oasis stud poker. In a town where the beach is the big draw the casino might not be your primary destination, however it can serve to kill a few afternoon or evening hours when you just need to feed that itch. Besides, a good run at cards or a jackpot could really plump your wallet when you feel like evening drinks and dinners out, especially with some of the higher-end establishments and pricey menus associated with resort towns.

Hotel/Accommodations

There are no hotels on site. Te closest to the casino would be the Aanair Hotel and Spa. The hotel has 50 rooms in types Superior, Deluxe, Club and Family Club. Aside from the size of the room and balcony, the room type is also based on occupancy. Superiors house 2 adults, Deluxes 2 adults and a guest (same as Club) and Family Club is for a 2 adult, 2 children occupancy. All rooms come in either ocean or a mountain view. Flic en Flac is flush with hotels so it may behoove you to check around the city for price comparison and based on what is closest to the attractions that are most readily accessible.

Dining

For international a la carte dining head to The Colonial Garden where you can dine inside or outdoors in the garden overlooking the ocean. They also offer breakfast buffets and themed dinner buffets. For Chinese cuisine with menu items like Peking duck and seafood dishes head to Mei Yan Restaurant, open noon until 11 pm. Trek into town and find any number of dining options where you can sample authentic Mauritian cuisine. Ask the hotel and casino for recommendations on popular spots in the area.

Attractions/NightLife

If you’re interested in live music while enjoying your favourite cocktails, try The Colonial Bar, open daily from 6 pm until 10 pm. In town there are several restaurants, bars and nightclubs so walk about and find the one most suited to your tastes. A big draw to the area are the white sand beaches, both Flic en Flac Beach and nearby Tamarin Beach. Participate in any number of water activities out in the deeper waters like sailing, wind surfing, scuba diving and deep sea fishing. Nearer the shore, take advantage of the clear waters, beautiful lagoon and coral reef for swimming and snorkelling. Be sure to talk to both hotel and casino staff about any popular or lesser-known attractions in the area worth visiting. Spoil yourself back at the hotel by taking full advantage of their spa facilities.
