Cancun is a city in south eastern Mexico in the state of Quintana Roo – chances are you’ve heard the name before. Tourists, spring breakers and honeymooners flock here each year. Check out some of the archaeological sites, notably El Rey, El Meco, Coba, Tulum, and the more famous Chichen Itza. Take a trip over to Isla Contoy, with its 150 plus species of birds. There are no hotels on site, though nearby you can find the Hotel Ibis Cancun Centro. The hotel is conveniently located just 10 minutes from the airport and maybe 5 from the beaches. The Las Americas shopping mall is also steps away. They offer 190 rooms equipped with one double or 2 single beds, air conditioning, satellite tv and free internet access. Views look over the lagoon and residential area. There’s a bar and restaurant on site which provides daily breakfast buffets. Note this is a 100% smoke-free hotel.

Dining

Enjoy breakfast buffets in the Rendez Vous restaurant in the hotel or at The Cove Cancun, the latter also having a la carte lunches and candle-lit dinners. Cuisine is Caribbean with a seafood slant. La Habichuela dishes up Mexican cuisine and guests can dine outdoors in the gardens. For seafood, pasta and steaks, try Laguna Grill, where you can dine out on the terrace on the water’s-edge. Dine then dance the night away in Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville.

Attractions/NightLife

You won’t be lacking for options when it comes to night life. In fact, for bars and clubs, you’ll be spoiled for choice. A few clubs around include Senor Frog’s (check out the water slide, from inside the club, leading to the lagoon outside), O Ultra Lounge (also with live music), Basic Discotheque, and Dady O, with its go-go dancers. Hit the beaches for any number of activities, like sunning, swimming, snorkelling, sailing, fishing, jet-skiing, scuba diving etc. Try something a bit more adventurous like trekking through the jungle, zip-lining or swimming with the dolphins. Glass-bottom boat tours are both relaxing and enlightening. Visit various archaeological ruins like Las Ruinas del Rey. Over at the Interactive Aquarium, check out marine life and actually pet some of the animals. On Isla Contoy, you can see up to 150 various species of birds. The ecological park Xcaret, has various flora and fauna, an archaeological site, a beach, an orchid greenhouse, a butterfly pavilion, and the Xcaret Mexico Espectacular, which shows Mexican music and dances. At the Hidden Worlds Cenote Adventure Park you can check out the underwater caves. When it’s time for shopping, hit the markets, or the Las Americas and/or the La Isla Shopping Mall.
