Casino Central

La Paz is the capital of the Mexican state of Baja California Sur and has a population of about 215,000 people. Throw in the surrounding towns which include El Zacatal, San Pedro and El Centenario and you have the 4th largest municipality with a population of about 250,000. A great place to hang out, would be Malecon. This newly reconstructed waterfront has beaches, live bands and is perfect for unwinding. When trying local cuisine, be sure to sample various seafood dishes, especially the specialty tacos.

Hotel/Accommodations

There are no hotels on site. Just under one kilometre (0.8) from the casino you can find the Hotel los Pescadores. Rooms here have 2 queen sized beds and air conditioning as well as free wireless internet access. Note, rooms do not come with televisions. There are of course, alternate accommodations throughout the city. Simply choose those closest to the attractions you intend on visiting or perhaps best align with either your budget or level of comfort. Regardless of where you decide to stay, be sure to ask staff about nearby areas of interest so you don’t miss out on seeing anything worthwhile.

Dining

Be sure to sample all the best of authentic Mexican cuisine. Bismark II focuses on seafood dishes and has a taco stand out front. Try the steak tacos. Rancho Viejo comes with vegetarian options. Dining on a budget? Try 2-for-1 Wednesdays in El Michoacano. Want something different? Grab a manta-ray taco in Super Tacos Baja California. There’s a bit of everything taco-wise in Mc Fisher, with stuffings like oyster, marlin, clam and octopus. Dine in the courtyard at La Boheme, or oceanfront in Kiwi. El Quinto Sol does veggie dishes. For burgers, there’s Carlos n Charlie’s. Watch the sunset as you dine on the terrace at La Terraza.

Attractions/NightLife

There’s night life to be found in the various bars and clubs. For live music try Las Varitas or Colima By Café. For dancing, there’s La Pazlapa. If you want a bit of culture with your performances, there’s the Teatro de la Ciudad. For more culture and some history as well, try one of the local museums. There’s the Museo Comunitario de la Ballena, the Museo Regional de Antropologia e Historia, and the Centro Cultural Esperanza Rodriguez, with its art exhibits. If you’re looking for religious sites and architecture, try the Catedral de Nuestra Senora de la Paz, built in 1720, and the Santuario de la Virgen de Guadalupe, a 12 m tell altar. Other attractions include Biblioteca de la Historia de las Californias (a history library), the Unidad Cultural Profesor Jesus Castro Agundez, Malecon (the waterfront), and the main square, Plaza Constitucion, great for relaxing and people-watching.
