Palacio Royal Chiclayo

Located inland 13 km from the Pacific coast, you can find the capital city of the Lambayeque region, Chiclayo, and its casino, the Palacio Royal Chiclayo. The 4th most populous city in Peru, it was founded by Spanish explorers in the 16th century and first named Santa Maria de los Valles de Chiclayo. Today, referred to simply as Chiclayo, it also holds the informal monikers ‘Capital of Friendship’ and ‘Pearl of the North’. Visit one of several archaeological sites and areas such as Huaca Rajada and the tomb of Senor de Sipan. Shop at the marketplace, Mercado Modelo or if you’re more in tune with your athletic nature, check out their surf-worthy beaches. Keep an eye out for annual celebrations, particularly in February and August.

There are no hotels on site. About 2.5 miles from the casino you can find The Gran Hotel Chiclayo. Minutes from downtown and the airport, it’s an ideal spot for those exploring the region. Their 129 rooms come in traditional, superior and suite and are equipped with hi-speed internet access. They provide meeting and conference facilities as well as having a spa, sauna and outdoor swimming pool.

Dining

There are no dining facilities on site, but finding a restaurant serving up authentic northern Peruvian cuisine shouldn’t be a problem. Try Rubimar, Churrasquiera San Luis or La Tia Ana, all within walking distance from the casino. Regional specialties include Arroz con pato (duck and rice) and ceviche. Talk to hotel or casino staff about recommendations on popular local eateries that best fit your budget.

Entertainment/Nightlife

If you happen to be in Chiclayo in February, look for the festival of Santisima de Chaplon and the annual August event, The Holy Cross of Motupe Pilgirimage. During days stroll through parks and grassy areas, check out local museums and visit Paseo de la Musas. Haggle for souvenirs at the marketplace, Mercado Modelo. Visit any one of several archaeological sites such as the tomb of Senor de Sipan, the Huaca Rajada and Batan Grande.
