Dakar is the largest and capital city of Senegal and has an estimated population of just over 1 million people. There’s a lot of things to do while here, the most common being hitting up the beaches, of which there are many. Some are less clean than others, some have unfavourable swimming conditions and some are prime for surfing. Ask hotel staff for tips on which are best. There’s several religious structures and buildings to check out, and museums and galleries where you can also fill your days. After exhausting days running around the capital, head into the casino for slots and cards and much needed R and R. For evenings, the region is flush with bars and clubs.

Dining

Open noon to midnight, Poseidon offers international dishes Surf and Turf meals and creates homemade desserts. Try Saturdays for themed dinners and live music beginning at 10 pm. For Mexican, head to Le Lex, also a popular bar. You’re in the capital, so finding restaurants won’t be a problem. Ask hotel and casino staff for their recommendations on nearby venues both popular with locals and tourists. Be sure to try some authentic Senegal cuisine. Back at the hotel, enjoy breakfasts outdoors in the gardens while overlooking the pool.

Attractions/NightLife

Hit the hotel’s Piano Bat at 11 pm for live music while also enjoying your favourite cocktails. Between the restaurant and the casino, there’s VIP Bar open from noon until 2 am. There’s several local club such as Sunset, Alize Club, PlayClub and King’s Club, the latter also with live music. For upscale try Dakar. There’s several things to do in Dakar to fill your days. If you’re looking for museums, there’s the IFAN (Institut Fondamental d’Afrique Noir and Espace Culturel VEMA. Also try the Yassine Arts Centre, Galerie Le Manage and Galerie Nationale. For religious structures and areas of interest, there’s the Grande Mosquee, Mosque de la Divinite and a 1920’s cathedral. Also check out the Layen Mausoleum. There’s an abundance of beaches to be found. These include Soumbedioune, Plage de la Viole d’Or, Plage de l’Anse Bernard, Plage de N’or, Plage de Hann and Plage Monaco. Some beaches are less clean and have less than ideal swimming conditions. Ask hotel staff which beaches are closest and best. Other attractions include the train station and the Les Mamelles Lighthouse.
