Paramaribo, or Par’bo for short, is the largest and capital city in Suriname. The populations rings in around ¼ million, a little more than half the entire pop. of all of Suriname. If you happen to be staying in, or passing through Suriname, there’s a fair bit to do. Start your day by going over to the centre square where you can find a statue dedicated to former prime minister Pengel. Here you can also find the presidential palace, dating back to the 18th century. And behind this is the Palmentuin where you can see Capuchian monkeys, assorted birds and royal palms. When you want to take in some shopping, walk along the waterfront checking out the Asian market, Indian market and Maroon market.

Gaming

Dining

At the casino, look for international dishes in Fusion Restaurant. For light eats, there’s Fusion Casino Restaurant. If you enjoy Javanese cuisine, try Mirosso Indonesisch Restaurant, serving dinners after 6 pm. Or for East Indian fare, in the town centre you can find Joosje Roti Shop. Being in the capital, there are several dining options. Simply walk about finding your favourite venue, or ask hotel and casino staff for tips on places popular with locals and tourists.

Entertainment/NightLife

Find all your favouriye cocktails in either Warana Bar or Tibiti Bar. If it’s dancing you’re after there’s Club Touche or Starzz Disco. For live music check out Café Bar ‘t Vat. There’s several major attractions in and around the city core. For museums, there’s either the Numismatic Museum or the Stichting Surinaams Museum. To grab a bit of history, try Fort Zeelandia or the presidential palace. Religious sites include the Petrus and Paulus Cathedral and the Dutch Israeli Synagogue. To see some of the indigenous flora and fauna, like royal palms, Capuchian moneys and various birds, there’s the gardens at Palmentuin. When you’re finally read to do some shopping, stroll along the waterfront, checking out the central market with its various wares and live animals.
