If you’re in Djerba, chances are, aside from your Tunisian holiday in general, you’re here to check out the beaches. Stroll along the shores of the Mediterranean, with the best areas on the northeast coast, often referred to as Zone Touristique. The tourism, recent as it may be, becomes apparent with the presence of hotels, restaurants and shopping. If you’re looking to shop, well, you’re in the right place. The capital, Houmt Souk, translates as ‘market neighbourhood’ so this is a great time to test those haggling skills.

gaming

The casino might not be as large as some you’re accustomed to, but there’s certainly enough here for the recreational gambler, and a few hours of entertainment won’t be too hard to fill. The casino has 159 classic and video slot machines and video poker terminals plus an additional 20 table games. After hot days outdoors and at the beaches, head inside to test your luck. A good run at cards, and you can afford a few of those more expensive water activities you’ve been meaning to try. It might also refill that wallet you drained out at the markets.

Hotel/Accommodations

There are no hotels on site, however, just 0.4 km from the casino you can find the Majestic Hotel. Aside from its proximity to the casino it’s also just steps from the nearest metro stop and minutes from the train station. The hotel offers 68 standard rooms coming equipped with satellite tv and internet access. The hotel is also close to most major attractions so be sure to ask staff for insight on where to go and what to see, as well as a heads-up on the best local restaurants and hot spots.

Dining

For menu items like couscous and lamb, head to Restaurant el Frida with it’s a la carte menu. If you’re craving seafood such as lobster, try Restaurant Tio Mario. Don’t be shy about asking hotel and casino staff for recommendations on nearby eateries popular with both tourist and locals, or tour the city finding your own new favourite eatery dishing up authentic Tunisian cuisine.

Attractions/NightLife

For drinks and live music there’s Bar Primavera. For lounge-style environs, head over to Moorich Café. If you’re more keen on rubbing shoulders with the locals and soaking up regional culture, find your own watering hole closer to the core. If you like the beaches where the tourists gather, head to Zone Touristique. If you prefer somewhere a bit more private for your sunning head over to Aghir and El Kantara. Wherever you choose, you can participate in most water activities like swimming, snorkeling and boating. This is a good place to shop for all your souvenirs and holiday mementos – after all, the capital Houmt Souk literally means ‘market neighbourhood’. Haggle for the best prices as you pick up jewellery and spices and other local items. Several local attractions can be found around the hotel. Places of interest include St. Vincent Cathedral, the Ziouna mosque and the Municipal Theatre of Tunis. For leisurely strolls, try Belvedere Park.

Rewards/Deals

The casino does not currently have a player rewards system in place but be sure to ask staff about any potential contests or promotions which they may be running.
