Megasaur is a 25 line video slot from RealTime Gaming that includes their famous feature guarantee. They’ve also included 3 progressive jackpot levels, 2 wild features and a free games bonus. All-in-all this is one exciting sounding game, so I’ve been busy reviewing it to see if this is the case.
Megasaur Theme
Megasaur is set in the deepest jungle of Jurassic times. There is a contrast between the surrounding graphics, which are serene, and the brightly coloured dinosaurs that appear on the reels. It’s hard to explain but these graphics are neither realistic or cartoony; they instead strike a balance between that split opinion.
The reel icons include a variety of different dinosaurs that you’ll readily recognise (triceratops, stegosaurus etc). They also include a green Megasaur, red Megasaur and a variety of playing card inspired numbers and letters (10 to A). Each includes some level of animation and some even have their own sound effects.
Betting Options and More Functions
Megasaur uses three levels of bet that each play 25 compulsory pay lines per game. These wagers are called the Minor, Major and Mega bet. These stand at $1.25, $2.50 or $5 respectively and unlock the chance to win the respective progressive jackpots that are displayed above the reels (more on this later). Each of these wagers are notably larger than other video slots (especially penny slots), so not everyone will feel comfortable with the amount being wagered per spin. Megasaur Features
There are two wild ‘Megasaur’ features to look out for. Green Megasaur occurs in groups on the second reel only and can count as any symbol except the red Megasaur and scattered volcanos. Red Megasaur logos only appear on the fourth reel, again in groups. These red Megasaur wilds can count as any icon except the green Megasaur and scatter. The difference with these is that all prizes are doubled when the red Megasaur is used.
Megasaur’s free spins feature is triggered if 3 or more volcano scatters occur on the same spin. This prompts you to choose a volcano to reveal a number of free spins. You then pick other volcanos to reveal more until you have your final total of free spins. You then click ‘spin’ to start these and watch the Megasaur free spins play out. Your total winnings are shown on conclusion of these free spins and you’re then returned to the main reels. If your total winnings are less than 10x your bet a win-win occurs to payout up to 250x your bet - this ensures the feature winnings are always worthwhile.
The jackpot can only be won during the Megasaur free spins feature. This pays out the Minor or Major progressive jackpot if 5 volcano logos appear on the same line. You’ll need to be placing the respective Minor, Major or Mega jackpot wager for this to be active though.
Our Take on Megasaur
Dinosaur themed video slots are very popular nowadays. The combination of form (which won’t appear to everyone) and function on Megasaur seems to be about right. This makes it nice to look at and fun to play, which will stand it in good stead.
