How to play 3 Card Poker

3 Card Poker, at the name hints, is a video poker game that is played with just 3 cards. The awesome thing here is that you actually play two games with the same hand. Each hand is played with a single deck of 53 cards, that is shuffled between games. Sounds interesting doesn’t it?

How to Play 3 Card Poker

3 card poker provides two modes of gameplay that can be played alongside each other. Each requires a bet of its own, but only the ante bet is mandatory (you can choose not to play pairs plus).

Ante Play

Ante Play essentially is the player facing off against the dealer with the aim of achieving a higher card. Three cards are dealt and you'll have the choice of playing (double the ante) or folding your hand. The dealer needs Queen high at the least to qualify, and your hand must beat theirs to win.

Pair Plus™

Think of Pair Plus as a side game with the aim of being dealt a pair. To play you will need to place a Pair Plus bet on the table. Once the cards are dealt you'll receive a prize if a pair is dealt. It doesn't matter what the dealer gets because Pair Plus doesn't affect the main game.

Options

Options include display quality (good if you have a slow connection), sound effects, the ability to mute the dealers voice and even switching ambient sounds on or off.

This is one of my favorite table games however, it can really be a pain. Like Red Dog, it is a game that runs in streaks where you can win a great deal or be wiped out very quickly. It also requires a larger amount of cash to start with, if you want to play the "pairs Plus" side bet. In my experience, this bet is the only way you can really win. Straight bets are absolutely in the house's favor. The odds are very lopsided considering that the house has the out of not paying on your call bet if their hand doesn't qualify. However, unlike Red Dog, the player has to play both the anti and the call bet or fold and lose the hand.outright. The end result is a house win favor of approximately 75% - 80%, so you'll likely lose if you only play the straight bet. The payouts on the "Pair Plus" bet can be large enough to give you a very nice winning night.

Three Card Poker is a nice game with a lot of deserved popularity. This game is a straight-up version of the casino table game, straight down to the pair plus payout structure. One thing I did notice is that the original or "ante" bet pays out the bonus payout for very high poker hands even if the dealer does not qualify. That's a nice bonus for any player who likes the three card action!

3 Card Poker is one of the newest casino table games to have gathered mainstream acceptance, and for good reason - its fast, fun, and often offers some great odds for the player. This is actually a pretty nice version as well, which I hadn't really expected being from 1x2 gaming ..! The pairs plus bet is described a little misleadingly above - yes, a pair is nice, but a straight or flush (etc) is much better and pays out much higher, infact 6 to 1 for a straight, so if you play this bet as well as the ante, score a straight and win, your looking at an overall return of 4x bet - not bad for a reasonably common occurance at a table game, though the variance is much higher than blackjack I've no doubt. Nevermind that though, try it out, its good fun!
