Elektra is a super-svelte, extraordinarily deadly ninja lady. Her trademarks are looking super fantastic and making big holes in people with a twin-bladed sai, although not necessarily in that order. Actually, who am I kidding, she's a comic book character – definitely in that order.
Marvel created Elektra as a side character and love interest in the Daredevil story back before it was socially acceptable for someone like Daredevil to just come out of the closet as a gay man (not that he has done). Or am I the only one who thought there was something just a little questionable about a grown man dressing head to toe in leather and running around at night looking for action?
Social commentary aside, Elektra is as smoking hot as she is deadly, and she's a compelling read, and Cryptologic have done a fantastic job of bringing her character to computer game form. The game is incredibly playable, offering hours of entertainment to slots fans, and people who have read the comic book will enjoy spotting how many of the the finer details Cryptologic have got right.
It's hard to approach this game purely from a technical perspective because it's clear how much fun the designers had building it, and how much of themselves they put into this project. I have played most of the games in the Marvel Superheroes series, and this one does stand out for me as one of the most graphically rich of them all, even if it isn't based on the most popular source material.
But down to the technical stuff, then. Elektra is a five reel video slot title that lets players activate up to 25 discrete pay lines. The reel graphics, as mentioned, are lush, and include many Chinese symbols, ninja weapons, bloody hand prints, and more. Many of the symbols animate when they form part of a winning combination, which is a nice touch.
Elektra herself is Wild, and she can complete winning combinations if she finds herself plugging a hole in a sequence that would otherwise pay out. In such situations, her symbol animates and she slashes out with her blade – it's pretty cool.
If there's 3 or more Elektras anywhere on screen, the Bonus game launches, which is my favourite thing about this game. It's a first person perspective game looking down an alley, with ninjas attacking. You must throw ninja stars at them until you have either hit or missed five, at which point you receive a cash payout.
Elektra takes coin sizes up to $5, and pays a top prize of 5,000 coins, or $25,000 at maximum bet. Don't forget that, as with all Marvel Superhero games, there are also three progressive jackpots attached to this game that could pay out at any time! Check out the progressive totals in the top left of the screen.
