Sovereign of the Seven Seas doesn't look like a new slot, but we think that's the point. Instead it has a traditional feel to it which makes sense seeing as this is based upon sailing ships and world exploration.
Walnut bur is used as a visual mount for the reel icons. These include the captain, sextants, treasure chests, throttle controls (weird as it seems to be a sailing ship), canons and female shipmates. You'll also find brightly toned 9, 10, J, Q, K and A figures.
There's a few added sound effects which add to the nautical theme. They have stopped short at sea shanties though, we can only be a good thing!

Wild icons can appear on reels 2, 3, 4 or 5 and can count as any other icon except the canon (which is a bonus). These wilds are far more impressive than on other slots because they fill the whole reel when they appear which basically triples their effectiveness.
The canon, which has its own animation, will trigger the free spins bonus when three to five icons appear on screen. This then gives you three options;
1. 20 free spins with 2X multipliers, or
2. 15 free spins with 3X multipliers, or
3. 10 free spins with 4X multipliers.
We tend to hedge our bets and go for option number two most of the time but the beauty of this bonus is that the player is free to choose. It's also important to note that wilds can also appear during free spins which can really ramp up the prizes.
Our Take on Sovereign of the Seven Seas
2012 saw some epic video slots from Microgaming (remember the Dark Knight) and this one signals a decent start to 2013, which could have been better. We did like playing Sovereign of the Seven Seas but would have enjoyed it more if an interactive bonus game had been included. What do you think?
