Top Microgaming Gaming Casinos

Retro is becoming increasingly fashionable these days. Fashion produces more and more retro designs, technology manufacturers create retro-looking hi-tech machines, and even the gambling industry decided to join the highly-popular trend. The high demand for good old classics drove some of the industry’s leaders to create more contemporary versions of traditional slots – and Microgaming is one of them. Its latest releases, which introduced a good start to 2011 include a great, sparkly slot, which gives great prizes and works on a familiar theme in an improved way – “Retro Reels – Diamond Glitz” promises good, fun times and perhaps some profit, too.

If this sounds like your idea of fun, then you should definitely give this retro slot a try. “Retro Reels – Diamond Glitz” is played on five reels and 25 paylines, and it features all the familiar characters that you can see in all traditional slot machines – there are single, double and triple bars and diamonds, which can be mixed, then cherries, red sevens, bells, and the best paying dollar symbols. All this in a dark, but still sparkly background which actually appears like a real slot machine. And the complementary sounds add even more to the great attempt of the game’s designers to create a realistic, land casino feeling.

This is a rather simple slot, judging by its rules and special features, which aren’t many. But the fact that they aren’t numerous doesn’t mean that they are scarce – on the contrary, the free spins with a multiplier and re-spins actually pay much better than a majority of other slots. However, if you’re in for a win, you’ll have to place some money to start the machine first. And the choice you’re offered in terms of bet amounts are huge: coin amounts go from $0.01 to $0.25, the maximum number of lines to select is 25, and it’s possible to place up to 20 coins per payline. And with such a range of choices, “Retro Reels – Diamond Glitz” allows everyone to give it a try and see what’s in it for you.

Special Symbols & Features:

As mentioned above, this great-looking, although somewhat simple slot doesn’t have many features. The first one is free spins feature, triggered by three or more Free Spin Bonus symbols anywhere on the reels. When this happens, you’ll be awarded with 15 free spins, which will double all prizes, and which are retriggerable. Apart from this one, there’s also a newly introduced and highly popular re-spin feature, which allows players to re-spin a certain reel at a certain cost expressed in credits. With this feature, your winning odds are much higher, and even though this feature may be quite costly sometimes, it still may trigger some great prizes, including free spins.

What more to say about “Retro Reels – Diamond Glitz”? The only thing one may actually hold against it is its simplicity, but classic slots are like that. You either like them or not – so this isn’t really a matter of choice. But we bet you’ll be won by its generosity and authenticity, and once you try it, you’ll find yourself getting back to it quite often.

  • I guess this was the first of the retro reels series, it definitely looks quite basic compared to the later incarnations but already has many of the features which make these slots appeal to me including the ability to respin one reel at a time for a special price to try and achieve an extra scatter or missing symbol on a payline. Worth a look just to see where the series started, but the later games are much better.

This is a very good slot based on low rollings / wagering out point of view, I think it's a little gem as it is still so underrated but by no means, because it is bad, it just is a solid, nice slot.

This is a good game for me because I like free spins and at this game you only need 2 scatter symbols to get 10 free spins, and they can be retriggered when you are in free spin mode. I like these types of games sometimes. I have not had a big win on it but I am still playing it and like to increase my bet to the $4 a spin, if I have won on the smaller bets then hope for those free spins!

Theres a whole series of these Retro Reels games, but in my opinion this is definitely one case where the original was not the best. It's not a bad game by any means - it looks good, and certainly works as a crossover between old school 3 reel slots and the newer 5 reel generation. The paytable is decent, theres free spins with a 2x multiplier, you can even get a few free spins from just 2 scatters, with 25 for all five, and then of course there is the respin feature... With the respin, you can choose any individual reel to spin again in the hope of catching that symbol you need for a big win. As ever with this kind of feature though, the costs soon spiral out of control, way beyond any win you might of been hoping to catch, if you choose to use it too often on the chase. I advise only ever giving 1 or 2 respins and even then, the cost is often waaaay prohibitive in my opinion. For example if you have 4 of the triple bar symbols on a line, it can cost over 3x bet for a respin of that reel, with zero guarantee of ANY win whatsoever - and even if you catch the triple bar, the win will only be a little over 11x bet. If you look at the raw maths this way, you'll soon see its not a good idea to get too crazy with the respin feature. Not bad though, but maybe check out Retro Reels - Extreme Heat first :)

Low variance game with low payouts, and also very bad looking. Only one great thing here it is 5 freespins awarded for 2 scatters!
