Top WMS Gaming Casinos

Shoji is a very interesting and seemingly difficult game to play released by Vegas based WMS company, as part of their recent streak of Asian themed slot machines. Named after traditional Japanese sliding doors and featuring its cultural symbolism, Shoji is probably the least promoted among latest WMS offerings and not so well known in the gambling circles. Which is a shame because it really does deserve more fame, due to its unusual mechanics with a twist, and a potential for big wins.

Shoji Slot Characteristics

Despite an overused theme and unremarkable sound effects, Shoji will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time thanks to its engaging gameplay. There are actually two sets of reels spinning at the same time and sharing the same symbol lineup - the lower one has a 6x3 configuration and serves as the base game set, while the upper one is smaller featuring 5 reels with only two rows of symbols and has a role in the bonus feature. Curiously, this extra set is not available from the get go, instead it can be gradually revealed one or more reels at a time, by means of sliding doors animation. This is entirely random and does not follow any particular pattern. Those reels that are revealed interact with symbols below, making interesting winning combinations and at the same time, serving as a boost to your winning potential. In case Wilds appear here, they will automatically transfer to their corresponding positions in the lower section, making for a kind of expanding reel bonus.

Even the pay-line structure succumbs to this matrix and so we have 1215 ways to win in the main game, but in the bonus feature there is an upgrade to 2025 ways to win. Managing wins is made easier with the addition of a Wild substitute presented as the Sliding Door symbol, which can luckily appear both in the base game and bonus feature.

As for the actual symbols and design - everything is reminiscent of Japan and its history. In that sense, there are samurai, geisha, golden koi fish, bonsai trees and pagodas making up for all the high-value images. These are backed up by a standard A through 10 card deck symbols which cost significantly less.

When three Golden Coin scatters appear on the lower set of reels, players are awarded 8 free spins initially, with the above mentioned 2025 ways to win, extra Wild symbols and a theoretical possibility for an infinite amount of retriggers.

Our Take On Shoji Slot

An excellent source of fun and thrills, but it won't give in easily to your attempts at winning some hefty sums. Of course, huge wins are possible, but you never know what's in store with Shoji.
