There are few people who haven’t seen and laughed their way through at least one of the Monty Python movies, those funny, sarcastic art pieces that never cease to amaze. Therefore, dedicating a slot to one of the titles from the Monty Python series was a logical step, and playing it will be an amazing experience, especially if you’re a fan of the whole Python shindig and/or Playtech slots.
The full title of the video slot is “Monty Python’s Spamalot” and it features a hilarious set of characters on its five reels and 20 paylines - there are King Arthur, Sir Robin, the Holy Grail, and all other symbols related to the Excalibur/King Arthur satire. In addition to this, the “Spamalot” slot has other qualities, apart from being extremely funny and allegorical - it’s got a lot of winning potential. This is mostly owed to its special features - four bonus features, a wild, a scatter, and free spins.
To make things even better, “Spamalot” offers a very hefty jackpot, which can be won in a special, Holy Grail Jackpot game. This game can be triggered if you collect five jackpot symbols which appear on reel 3 during the free games. You can win the symbols even when a random wild replaces them, which is a nice bonus, especially having in mind the size of the jackpot.
This part of the game is what players will like most, apart from the cheerful, silly graphics. It is not only because these specials may take you to heaven with their prizes, but also because they’re both numerous and diverse, thus satisfying all tastes.
The first two you’ll notice are wilds and scatters. The wilds have their standard role, to substitute for other symbols, except Scatter, Bonus and the Jackpot Game symbol. It also pays separately when two or more of them appear on a payline, if the win they bring is bigger than the win they would help form. The scatter has two roles, as well - to pay any and to bring 10 free spins with random wilds when three or more appear anywhere. It’s worth knowing that the free spins cannot be retriggered and that during them you cannot hit any of the bonus rounds.
As for the Holy Grail Jackpot game which can be triggered during the free spins, it will take you to a hill with six levels. On each level you will have to pick from a certain number of animals, and if the animal you picked shows you a cash prize, you’ll move forward; however, if you pick an animal without a cash prize, the bonus game will stop. If you manage to get to the final, sixth level, you’ll get another pick - and what you’ll get is either the Holy Grail Jackpot or the Slightly Less Holy Grail Jackpot. Just note that your chances of winning one of the jackpots will increase with the size of the bet you choose.
Let’s not forget the bonus round, either. It will be triggered by bonus symbols appearing on reels 1 and 5, and it will award one of the four Bonus games in the following order: Storm the Castle, None Shall Pass, Knights Who Say Ni and Killer Rabbit.
In the Storm the Castle bonus round, you need to select one of the six spots to place four knights on it in order to avoid being hit by a cow shot from the castle. If the cow misses, you’ll get a prize, but once it hits the spot you chose, the bonus round will end.
In the None Shall Pass Bonus, you’ll start with a multiplier of x5. Your task will be to attack the Black Knight and cut off his limbs. Each time you do this you win a cash prize; but each time you miss, the multiplier drops by one. The bonus will end after the fourth strike, and your cash prize will be multiplied by the final multiplier.
The Knights Who Say Ni Bonus introduces you to five knights who need shrubbery. You will also see a scene with three houses, one of which you need to pick to reveal the cash value of the shrubbery. Then, you’ll stand before a difficult decision - whether to keep the shrubbery and take the prize, or to choose another shrubbery by clicking on Change and explore the remaining house(s).
Finally, there’s the Killer Rabit Bonus, where the player has to pick a rock which will be used by the first knight to try and kill the Killer Rabbit. If he manages, all the remaining knights will reward the player with cash; if not, the knight will be as good as killed and the player will have to choose another rock. Your potential cash prize will drop with each knight that is killed and you’ll repeat the round until you kill the Killer Rabbit.
It is our impression that Playtech nailed it with “Spamalot” which will bring Monty Python closer to those who didn’t know much about it, and take us who already love them to an entertaining adventure with this slot’s adorable characters.
