Thor, as we all know, is the mythic Norse god of thunder. He has a massive hammer which he uses to create those huge bolts of lightning we see whenever there's a massive storm.
Thor is, of course, also a super hero from Marvel comics, who is, surprise surprise, the Norse god of thunder. Only now he runs around using his mighty hammer to smite fools about the head to discourage them from their naughty ways.
Apparently a clonk on the dome from a legendary tool is enough to discourage you from a life of crime, and indeed this may be the case. In fact, there is a major motion picture in the works due for release in early 2010.
Cryptologic have done a sterling job adapting Marvel's comic book to video slot format, choosing to lean graphically quite heavily on Thor's traditional Norse roots. I like the look of this game, it's really pretty. Everything has kind of an icy glow about it, with little crispy lightning crackles and stuff.
On the reels you can expect to see Thor's mighty hammer (but of course, for the smiting of fools), some ancient runes, an evil dude with horns (I clearly haven't read enough Thor), a Norse ship, and more besides.
Let's look at the specifics of this game, then. Cryptologic's Thor is a five reel video slot game. You can play on a single play line, or, if you want to increase your chances of winning per spin, you can activate up to nine different pay lines.
Thor himself is wild, and completes any winning combination on a pay line he finds himself a part of. One slick visual thing here, whenever he does this, he starts shooting lighting out of himself – it looks ridiculously cool.
When three or more Thors pop up anywhere, it's bonus time, because this means you've triggers 10 free spins of the reels. But, during this time, anything you win is automatically trebbled.
Thor features three progressive jackpots that can trigger at any time. The first is a baby that grows from $50 once it's been won. The second grows from $500, and the third is quite substantial, growing upwards from $5,000. You never know when or how these progressives could be triggered!
The main game pays out a top prize of 4,000 coins. Since it accepts coins sizes of between 5c and $5, this means the biggest cash prize you could win spinning Thor's reels is $20,000.
