PlayNow relaunch plagued by another technical failure
Thursday night's attempt by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation to relaunch its technically-challenged PlayNow.com entry into the online gambling sector proved to be a further embarrassment for the organisation, again exhibiting signs of failure.
Players trying to visit the internet casino gambling site after its 35 day downtime from its original launch failure (see previous InfoPowa reports) found only a page saying the site was not available and asking for patience.
The site was scheduled to reopen at 7pm PT, having resolved the previous security issues, but by the early hours of Friday morning it was still inoperable, despite an earlier comment by a company spokesman advising CBC that techies were still working on the site but hoped to have it up and running that same (Thursday) night.
By Friday morning the site appeared to be functioning again.
Prior to the re-launch BCLC officials assured the public that the website had been given a clean bill of health. A review by the independent business services provider Deloitte & Touche, approved by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner on Thursday, found that BCLC had correctly identified and disabled a default setting in the server software that had caused the original breach, effectively preventing a repeat.
