House Bill 17-129 passes the House of Representatives

This week, the House of Representatives of Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, an Asian nation in the Pacific Ocean, passed a House Bill 17-129 authored by Rep. Joseph M. Palacios, which could turn it into the next internet gambling licensing jurisdiction.

The bill, which received the House’s positive vote of ten to nine, broadly proposes the introduction of an internet gambling regulatory and licensing regime. After the House, the bill will be sent to the Senate for further consideration and presumably the creation of practical requirements for such a jurisdiction.

Regarding this matter, Rep. Joseph M. Palacios stated: “If this bill becomes law, we could regulate and tax Internet gambling and generate revenue. Right now, people here who gamble do not pay taxes. There's no tax imposed on their winnings.”
