La Linea Mayor: Spain Expects Share from Gibraltar’s Online Gambling Operations

The Rock’s communication links go via Spain

In an interview to the Gibraltar Chronicle, the mayor of a city close to online licensing jurisdiction Gibraltar, called La Linea stated that even though The Rock has the high technology and clients, Spain is still the one through which its communication links go, adding that La Linea expects to benefit from it.

According to the Mayor Alejandro Sanchez, there are currently 37 online gambling firms in Spain, but only five of them cover up to an 86 pecent share of the lucrative Spanish internet sports betting market.

He added that most of the companies are licensed abroad, for example in Malta or Gibraltar, and that the sector’s growth is doubling each year.

He put a particular stress on La Linea’s expectation to draw benefit from Gibraltar's profits since the Rock’s telecoms expansion following the signing of the Cordoba Agreement. "The technology which allows this business to prosper is concentrated and distributed through La Linea territory,” he said.
