Normally respectable online gambling group on the heat

Ever since a well-standing online casino Betfair ran what seems to be a botched promo which drove a great number of players to take the bait, it’s been a hot topic industry-wide. And instead of taking the blame and correcting its error, the casino made the situation a whole lot worse, taking a number of actions, such as retroactive changes to the T&Cs, closing and auditing player accounts and then arbitrarily confiscating winnings.

This clumsy handling of the already serious situation, as well as the casino management's refusal to further discuss the disqualifications with affected players, ended up in an outrage and severe criticism throughout the industry, especially among players who observed this move as the unfair removal of legitimate winnings.

In addition, Betfair suggested that players should contact the LGA in Malta, which has not been well received either, considering that the jurisdiction has a reputation of low player sensitivity.

One of the most extreme player complaints came from a Portuguese national who claimed that he had not only lost Euro 32 000, but that Betfair had somehow managed to extract that amount from his personal bank account without his permission. The player reported this and complained to banking and other regulatory authorities, adding that he requires satisfaction and an explanation as to how such a withdrawal could possibly have been sanctioned by his bank.

In terms of publicity, Betfair has gone silent, allowing the serious witch hunt against them to take shape as certain reknown online gambling info sites threw it into their rogue sections.
