Former Treasury and Economic Development Minister changes role

A report arrived this week that the online gambling licensing jurisdiction, The Isle of Man, has appointed a new Chief Minister - former Treasury and Economic Development Minister Allan Bell.

Bell was elected to the position by the Island’s ancient parliament, Tynwald, where he has been a member for 27 years. On the position, he will replace Tony Brown, who has retired from politics.

Prior to this, he held a number of ministerial functions, including Tourism, Industry and Home Affairs, the aforementioned Treasury Ministry, and he was also the Island’s first Economic Development Minister.

In a comment on the new position, Mr Bell (64) stated: "It is a great honour to be appointed Chief Minister at this time of challenge and opportunity for the Isle of Man.

"The challenge is to rebalance the government’s budget and maintain the development and diversification of the Island’s economy in a difficult global environment. The opportunity is to make changes that will secure the future of the Isle of Man as a competitive and responsible centre for international business."
