The Isle of Man to Introduce More Options for Live Tournaments?

The jurisdiction seeks to expand revenue streams

One of the Isle of Man Department of Economic Development’s plans for boosting the jurisdiction’s revenues is to amend its Casino Act of 1986 and the Gaming Betting and Lotteries Act of 1988 to allow the hosting of live gaming tournaments on the Island.

At the moment, live tourneys can be held at select venues, and with the change in the acts, the Gambling Supervision Commission would be enabled to grant temporary licenses and thus increase the number of potential venues for tournament organizers.

According to John Shimmin MHK, Minister for Economic Development, "The Department has identified an opportunity to be able to attract live gaming tournaments to the Island with all of the associated economic benefits they will bring in terms of increased bed nights, spend in the local economy and increased passenger numbers on aircraft serving the Island".
