Back Dutch Authorities Enforce Advertising Regulations

On July 1 regulations entered into force in the Dutch market prescribing that all gambling providers operating in the country must adhere to the Decree’s regulations related to advertising of gambling products.

The risks of gambling are to be always indicated on all advertising activities just as alcohol and tobacco manufacturers are required to do, it has been specified by Justice Minister Fred Teeven.

Also, from October 1, 2013, all operators offering games of chance will need to indicate minimum age requirements and publish a link referring players to additional information on identifying and dealing with problem gambling on their website and on all promotional activities.

Apart from this, operators will have to submit to the Kansspelautoriteit an annual report on their customer acquisition and advertising activities, including the number of advertising complaints and the number of times a subscribed player is sent promotional material.

Furthermore, gambling providers and other stakeholders are required to come up with an effective slogan that warns of the dangers of gambling, following the example of the alcohol industry's "Drink destroys more than you care to think" slogan.

In related news, Sportech Racing BV's current horse and harness racing sportsbetting permit has been extended by the Dutch Gambling Authority for an additional three months. The company is currently pursuing negotiations with the Dutch Association of Trotting and Racing.
