The forthcoming Dutch online gambling regulation and licensing regime, resulted in more than two hundred interested companies, reports the daily newspaper De Telegraaf. Everything started last December when the government issued an open invitation for interested companies to register. Whilst the invitation was issued the politicians discussed the new dispensation, which will come into force later this year.
A spokesman for Kansspelautorieit, the Dutch gambling regulator, told the newspaper that the number of inquiries was ‘high’ given the estimated size of the illegal market. It’s estimated that people in Netherlands spend between Euro 250 million and Euro 800 million on currently illegal online gambling every year.

The Dutch players are one of the most solvent players in Europe and it's not surprise that such an incredible amount have been spent every year on illegal online gambling. The Dutch authorities will have to fight with and solve this problem in future, although it's not going to be the easiest job.

The demand for online gambling is obviously there so no surprise that hundreds of companies are keen to grab a piece of the action. Hopefully this move by the Dutch government means residents will have access to a variety of regulated gaming sites and be able to play knowing that their funds are secure.

Wow, now that is a lot of money spent on illegal gambling in any country. The good thing is that the Dutch are smart enough to recognize that this is going on right under their noses and want to change things. Why let all that money just slip through their fingers and not just that, but literally millions of dollars leaving their country. Now why, why can't the USA, the freest and most powerful country in the world be one of the last countries to legalize gambling. Makes me wonder how smart they really are..........
