Premier League side Newcastle are in talks with PSV Eindhoven's Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum over a transfer to St James' Park. The Dutch international has been allowed by his club to hold talks with Newcastle as the two clubs have almost agreed a transfer fee.
If the deal goes through Wijnaldum will be the first signing of the summer for new manager Steve McClaren. The 24-year-old playmaker was an essential player for PSV last season, he was the club captain as Eindhoven won the title.
Wijnaldum is an attacking midfielder and he has joined PSV in 2011 from Feyenoord Rotterdam. He has earned 13 caps for the Dutch national team and managed to score a goal at last year's World Cup during the 3-0 victory over Brazil in the final for the third place.
Newcastle are 4.50 at Bet365 to finish inside the top half of the Premier League table next season.
