888 Withdraws from Portuguese Market

888 Withdraws from Portuguese Market This week 888 is withdrawing from the Portuguese market according to an email sent to affiliates.

The email notification read:

"We are writing to inform you that due to recent regulation changes in Portugal, we have decided to terminate the offering of our services to players from Portugal.

"We have therefore stopped all marketing activity in Portugal as of today, and ask you to discontinue targeting and cease all marketing activities towards players in Portugal with immediate effect."

There have been complaints from operators with regard to the high tax rate that comes with Portugal’s recently licensed and regulated market.
  • Yea, I am so bummed 888poker is not available on the U.S I have seen soooo many tourneys with iPads, iPhones, tablets, and other wonderful prizes available. Not fun to be an American player, and I guess now when it comes to 888poker, a Portuguese player.
  • Obviously many leading gambling companies leaving the Portuguese market these days after the newest regulation changes in the local gambling laws. I think at least in the European Union has to be some similar rules for the gambling operators or we will see many other situations like this.I'm feel sorry for the Portuguese players who will not be able to play on one of the top casinos on the market.
  • Why can't the WTO get everybody together to make one set of rules and regulations that all countries can agree upon to be used for all online betting sites of any kind all over the entire world. Did I really say that................. Sounds kinda crazy that the entire world could agree on anything let alone a group of rules and regulations for worldwide online gambling. I'm sorry, I guess I lost my head for just a minute......... OK, I'm back now......... Well, I'm feelin it for the Portuguese player. Looks like they are going to loose some great sites to play at. And like Rena said, you guys don't want to end up like us in the US, totally screwed. There are very few places we can go online, I wish all the Portuguese players good luck with your governments gambling regulations.......
  • There are many sites now left the specific countries under the terms and regulations of the country gambling laws. Can't understand the fact, why online gambling portals are closing while land based casino's making good profit and they are legal or "in the law" status? The main reason, for my opinion, that there's hard to regulate the online casino's because they are registered under low-taxes zones such as Netherland achilles, Malta, Cyprus and so on...They just don't pay/paying very small taxes to the government, so that's no point to let the traffic to online casino's, because land based could be more regulated and paying more taxes..
  • why cant gambling be legal all over the world instead of banning casinos in certain countries why do they make it hard on gamblers like here in the U.S we cant play on thousands of online casinos and that sucks cause some of them have games that i would like to gamble my money on. hope theirs a fix for the near future in the the whole gambling world and they get it together.
  • That really sucks and i know because the US is still feeling the burn. I hope it gets better for Portuguese. I would hate to see you wind up like us.
  • Yeah, in the past week or so i have had emails from William Hill, 21Nova, 24bet and Bet victor all pulling out of the Portuguese market, im guessing there will be quite a few more to follow.
