The Romanian gambling regulator revoked licenses from Bwin and Bet365 and blacklisted the brands last week for reason which remain unclear but bet365 is prepared to take very clear legal action.
Both brands paid retrospectively imposed back taxes as a requirement for Romanian licensing.
The revocation of its gaming license came as a surprise to bet365 management as they believe that the company had complied with all the regulator’s requests.
Bwin.Party also has plans to challenge the decision saying that it paid Euro 8 million in back taxes and was subsequently approved for licensing.

Bwin.Party paid Euro 8 million in back taxes. I wonder what years that covered. One year or 10 years of back taxes does make a difference.

Because how can it be revoked if they did not have one to begin with. So it sounds like the Romanian gambling regulator played them. Meaning they probably told them you need to do the following which they did not expecting them to follow through. But when Bwin and Bet365 did complete wheat was necessary it probably through them off and they just did what they original planned on doing in the first place. That is the only thing I can think of and is the reason why other legal action would be taken. That is so messed up.

Well, that's a fine howdy do. No good deed goes unpunished. If these two, highly regarded gambling sites paid their imposed back taxes as required, then Romania needs to reinstate their gaming license, immediately. Blacklisting these sites, now isn't Romania just cutting off their nose to spite their face. Aren't they losing tax money on the future revenue of these two sites. It will be interesting to see what's the reasoning behind the blacklisting. Maybe it is just a mistake, simple as that.

Did these two companies pay back taxes after they were blacklisted and were thus reinstated in good standing? Or is there further legal action necessary, the timeline and status is unclear to me from reading the article.
