Goodbye Macau, and so long Las Vegas; there might be a new major gambling destination on the scene. In fact, rumor has it that the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) is taking a serious look at the island of Cebu, and its potential to become the next serious gambling hub!
Chair of PAGCOR, Andrea Domingo, alluded to this vision at the recent ASEAN Gaming Summit, as a result of Manila no longer being a prime location, due to increased crowds. More specifically, the capital city is no longer the right fit for another major casino resort. Manila is already shrouded with four resorts, making up what is referred to as Entertainment City. They include the Solaire Resort and Casino, City of Dreams Manila, Okada Manila, all costing a steep, $1 billion each.
Cebu is a chief option because of its size, serving as the second-largest city in the country. It is also a convenient location for players from both local and foreign regions. The gambling community can expect to see action forming on the island of Cebu within the next 3 to 5 years, with PAGCOR having given a three-year timeline for the construction of a new land-based casino in the city. Two requests to begin the building process have already been approved, with one in Mandaue, and the other in Mactan.
In a comment to reporters, Domingo stated, “We listen to our investors. They asked us to give a five-year breathing space.”
Domingo also made mention of an expansion in the neighboring Pampanga province.

I visited Cebu when I was a teenager which was some time ago, and I do remember it was stunning! I’ve visited Macau and Las Vegas too so a Cebu vacation sounds like an amazing trip. While I have great respect for Jade's opinion -- she and I have a long-lasting affair of email exchanges over the past couple of years -- I am intrigued about the idea of gambling on Russia's Black Sea near Odessa. I am with President Donald Trump when it comes to improving relations with our Russian neighbors. I also once met a professional ice skater who came from that area and who was married to a U.S. jet pilot stationed at Cannon Air Force Base near Clovis, N.M. Such memories do not pass easily.

I am not surprised that someone is contemplating the next 'Las Vegas,' after Macau, of course. I am not surprised that someone is contemplating the next 'Las Vegas,' after Macau, of course. I had read about several different problems they were having in Macau over the last few years, but for some reason I got the idea that Vladimir Putin was going to take 'Sochi,' you know, where the Winter Olympics were held in 2014 and make it the next big gambling destination. I think the idea of an island in the Philippines is much better suited as the next big gambling hub along with all the tropical splendor you could want on a getaway. Although Sochi is Russia's largest resort city and it does have a subtropical climate, doesn't Cebu, Philippines sound much better than the Black Sea coast, in Sochi, Russia?

Cebu sounds like a paradise of an island for poker players and other gamblers. While I have never visited the Philippines, I know the islands contain much tropical beauty that would lend themselves to an excellent tourist destination. I have always been surprised that the Hawaii State Legislature has not approved gambling for the Hawaiian islands. Cebu will enjoy the economic and tax benefits from an infusion of new visitors and new cash. Nice story.
