Back Online Gambling Revenue in Spain Up 38% in Q4

Times are all-round good for Spain’s online gambling realm. As the country’s official regulatory body, Direccion General de Ordenacion del Juego (DGOJ) has recently revealed, 2017 was a successful year, especially in the final quarter. All gambling sectors have recorded a certain growth, and in some of them, it has been more than substantial.

There has been a substantial growth in revenue during this time, with sports betting bringing most profit followed by the revenue made in casinos. In the final three months of last year, the revenue soared to 38% more than during the same period last year – to a total of €173.3 million! This is also a surge of 23.5% on the total collected in the Q3 of 2017.

People using gambling services were depositing the most money into online casino games – a staggering 48% more than last year for a total amount of €1.77 billion wagered! Sports betting wagering amounted to €1.34 billion, and the record-breaking sports betting income ended up being €103.6 million – 48.5% more than in 2016. The casino’s total revenue, meanwhile, was €49.4 million, which is a 37.4% rise from 2016.

Also on the rise was the online poker market which marked a 15.5% rise in wagering for a total of €411.6 million deposited – this reflected in the revenue being 5% higher, for a total profit of €15.5 million. This is mainly due to the tournament fees increase by 2.2%.

Finally, even the bingo market went through a substantial growth of 40% and €3.3 million in 2017.
