A network of websites belonging to Paddy Power Betfair, including Paddy Power Casino, will soon have their own, in-house built assistance tool to offer to their clients who have gambling problems or fear developing them.
According to the report in Irish Times, the brand will soon announce the introduction of a brand-new tool that will present their punters with options such as choosing the limit of how much money they can lose as well as setting daily, weekly and monthly wagering limits. On each of the networked sites, punters will also be able to have a full insight into their account history, deposit limits, loss limits and reality check.
Colin O'Gara, head of addiction services at Saint John of God Hospital in Dublin, Ireland and consultant psychiatrist, said in an interview, that giving info about money losses to players affected with gambling issues is a good idea and it could lead to softening the blow their addictions may cause, adding: “Gamblers have a distorted view of how much they have bet and how much they have lost or won over time, so any information that helps address that is to be welcomed.”
Paddy Power itself commented that the company wants their gambling sites to be “enjoyable and [a] positive experience” for all their customers and has once again called for the Irish government to establish an independent regulator. The company's head of communications, James Midmer, wishes for the Gambling Control Bill, that has been in a state of constant delay for some time, to be introduced soon. The bill for establishing an independent regulator that would “cover online gambling and social media advertising” was approved in 2013 and is currently being updated by Ireland's officials. Midmer concluded by saying “It’s in everyone’s interests to have a credible, properly funded regulator who can work constructively with the industry.”

I have been playing in Betfair only for some years. And I think that Betfair is one of the best casinos. I didn't carefully saw the functions mentioned above, but, one sure thing is that it is quite easy to find the history of betting. I think that both Betfair and Paddy Power are much focused on Sports betting, rather than casinos. And the real reason of good measures for players is probably UKGC, as I suppose :)

I agree, jade, it's hard to make a break from the parallel reality people's minds are in while in gambling mode. Reality check is probably the least effective of the tools in that respect - although, it would be interesting to do a research on this to find that out for sure.

If all gamblers, including myself, did a "reality check" on their gambling habits, it would dash our dreams and ruin our day. I guess, for those that have a gambling problem, it has to be done, doesn't it.
