Pinnacle Sports Casino will be withdrawing from the Polish market as a result of its disappointment with changes to the taxation of sports betting.
Parliament passed changes to Poland’s Gambling Act for open licensing on sports betting, however, the 12% tax on profits is far too steep for operators like Pinnacle. In fact, it was referred to as “unworkable” by the Remote Gambling Association (RGA).
Polish players will have until 1 April to access their accounts as the operator recently informed affiliates of its upcoming withdrawal schedule.
Harry Lang, a spokesman for Pinnacle, said, “In December 2016 the Polish parliament passed an amended version of its gambling law after the draft was approved by the Senate.
“As a result, all Polish player accounts at Pinnacle will be made inactive on 1 April and any remaining funds will be promptly returned to customers.”
This decision will not affect gambling services offered in other regions. For example, following its exit from the UK market in 2014, Pinnacle is moving forward with licensing and planning to reenter the British sports betting sector. The operator currently holds gaming licenses in Curacao and Malta.
