  • Hiya LCB'ers,

I am not sure if this is happening to you but without fail every single time i make a deposit using my cc i get calls from the fraud department at the bank.

I know it's for my protection and they never ask what the transaction was for only if i made the transaction. I think its because it shows an international transaction and that's the red flag.

    Anyone else get calls?

  • i used hubby's card on his bank and he did get a call (I'm on this account too but never use it).  I bank at a more major one and they just send me an email asking me to approve the transactions.  I click either accept or deny, then it's fine. So I think this may be a universal thing nowadays.  I've begun using a prepaid card to deposit to avoid the hassle.

  • I recently changed to a major bank as well. I only got calls the first few times.  All I had to do was call them and tell them they were all legitimate charges.  They kept freezing my account because of "funny" charges. I ended up telling them I tend to buy things late at night from eBay and other funny sites. I havent had a problem since.  I gotten withdraws without a problem via ACH as well.

  • I think it is the major banks that do this. I too belong to a major bank and they lock my account until they get confirmation from me that it's a legit charge.

Not only do they call they will send me emails to confirm and text messages.

  • I used to make those calls when I worked in the cc fraud department. What irritates me is that these people are not looking at your account history if they continue to call you. I would call the first time I saw something odd. That didn't necessarily mean I blocked your card unless quite a few transactions coming out of your account within a short period of time. I always looked at account history. If this is normal for you then they should stop calling and blocking cards! Sheeshhhhh

  • i never had a call from my bank lol tongue

  • I wanted to follow up from my last post.....

Today I got a letter from my bank informing me that as of November 30th, both of my checking accounts will be closed with No explanation of any kind. It only had a reference number and it was from the fraud department.  I've only had the accounts for 2 months. I won't say the bank name...but I will say its a major US bank that many people use. I've made made many deposits and 2 withdraws. Now I need to get a new bank and I'll probably start using a prepaid visa from now on. This happen to any of you?  I can only assume its from the many deposits I've made but some kind of explanation would have been great. Then again, maybe I should be thankful they are simply closing my account. I can't imagine getting into a ton of trouble for it but I haven't researched the laws lately.

  • It is the payment processors only that get into trouble not the depositor i.e. you.

    Very strange though destro.

It would all depend on the activity in your account. If you had any deposits returned then that would raise flags on a new account. Trying to use your account for online gambling purposes that were declined would also be noticed. Accounts are generally considered "New" for 30-90 days and they're watched more closely. Simply making deposits alone wouldn't cause them to close your account. Gambling transactions are disguised anyway and that's how they slip through. Besides, they accepted them.

You should call them and find out what happened. What can it hurt?
  • There have been a few times where I tried depositing at a casino and was declined and couldn't figure out why. When I would try again the next day, the deposit would work.  No reason for it not to work since I had the money. I'm thinking I'll just move on since I wouldn't know how to explain all the charges I made with the international fees.

  • Hi Destro,

I hear ya on your concerns. But what i understand as it was explained to me by froggy who was a supervisor in the Visa dept and handled fraud issues, the bank will not ask you what the purchases are for. They will only verify that you have made that purchase.

Have they tried to contact you to verify transactions and you have not confirmed it?

Also @ missy froggy  -  question on your comment.......

Trying to use your account for online gambling purposes that were declined would also be noticed. If the transactions are camouflage how would a bank know it was an attempt to deposit into a online casino?

Not all disguise themselves as a different type of merchant. Example: They are an online casino coming up as a gift card merchant.

Online gambling is blocked in US banks based on the type of merchant. When an online casino tries to charge a deposit to your card it won't go through unless they appear as let's say a shoe store.

That said, if you try to use your debit card at an online casino that shows up as an online casino (which they should hehehe), you will be declined and your bank may see the attempt.

    Make sense?

YES!  I have only tried using my own credit card a couple of times.  They denied the transaction and I got a call.  After waiting several minutes waiting for the transfer to the fraud dept., I hung up.

Guess it was a sign not to use my cc.  I would not like to get a bill, with interest, for a deposit(s) I made and lost.

I would rather buy a gift card with cash on hand and if (when) I lose, I don't have to wait for a bill to pay later that month.
  • Thanks for your reply froggy!

Gift cards are always a good idea to use gabby. Or i was even considering opening up a separate bank account at another bank so my main account is never threatened.

  • Personally I would have people reply to my questions on such subject via PM for obvious reasons.

  • I have had so many calls from my bank's fraud department, they even cancelled my debit card at least once and I had to wait 10 days to get a new one. I prefer to use Neteller, but my bank won't let me deposit into Neteller with my debit card (well, it doesn't work 95% of the time -sometimes I get lucky). Oh, I'm not from the US, so the gambling laws are different.

  • is not about fraud but i remember a story happened with a bank from my town

i get a call from bank  telling me i have money to receive and to go at bank to see details

at that moment i not had bank account.i had one closed due inactivity but from there they have my details.phone number

so i go to see what money i have as long i didnt knew

lady telling me i had to receive 16 euro and to open account

but first i need pay 20 euro to open than i will receive back 20 after transaction end and had option to close account

i said to lady i not had 20 euro at the moment i i said for 16 euro no worth

but she insist why not .can buy something with 16 euro .why to lose them?

i agree in the end .i stay 30 min to open account to make all papers need etc

plus they agree to nopen account for free as long i said not have 20 euro

    all done

not remember why she said to go next day after money

i go next day to take precious money if she insist

what do you think?it was 16 cents  lool

problem is when i go take money at cashier was very embarassing when all look at me for 16 cents

but i said you call me to come otherwise i had no idea

but in my mind i said if i tell more probably lady will be punished

also when i do papers they forgot to geve me back id card.was under all that papers on lady desk

thats why i hate to do some things here

but that lady.hmmm if she cant make difference between 16 euro and 0.16 cents

here bank jobs are best pay ,i was thinking at that lady to no tose job.hope she not mistake again

money was send by  winamax after they no more allowed romanians they send last cents.i realise this only later after incident

maybe  peoples consider me stupid because my face but i consider myself more smart than many .evil
