The issue I have with hand pays here in the US is the fact, that some states require that taxes come out right away.  Like here in Iowa, if I get a hand pay, I pay 35% tax right away on my winnings.  Which sort of sucks, but at least it gets it out of the way.
If I get a hand pay, I really want it to be worth the tax form and the tax taken out of it.

I agree with ya cheetahwind on getting taxes out of the way. In Illinois you pay taxes on your own every year. I wish they were taken out right away because you have to be responsible and hold a portion until tax time
