  • Bodog’s .com Domain Seized by US Authorities

    More info : https://lcb.org/article/bodogs-com-domain-seized-by-us-authorities

  • well that just blows... DOJ is once again acting like a big bully !

  • True - but the domain is extinct in effect.  They moved everything a while ago plus they don't serve USA players any more (technically).

  • They are siting Copyright Infringement in this seizure... I find that interesting... so what is up with that?

They have often used tax evasion as a way to arrest gangsters and other criminals because they could not bust them for their real crimes... perhaps this is similar?

Bottom line is probably that they want to take down as much of the current gambling structure to make way for the US entry into the market as they can.

  • I can't make heads or tails of this. Why would the DOJ waste time on a dormant domain? There are plenty of others to pick on.  8'|

  • It doesn't make much sense to me either.

I just hope that the US government decides to make it legal for us and before I'm too damn old to remember what a computer is!! wink

  • this was long time coming. Bodog and Calvin Ayre were poking US Gov's eyes for too long I guess. No wonder they killed  .com domain and switched  to .eu few months back, its like they expected this to happen.

  • Here is some more info on the subject:

You hit the nail on the head Zuga.

I couldn't of said it better Zuga, that is exactly what happened in my opinion too. I mean i loathe how the US government is controlling this whole online gambling situation but to dangle it like a carrot in front of the DOJ acting as if they are unstoppable is just plain wrong.

Usually when i read articles about seizures such at this or bullying tactics from US authorities i get really angry but i have to admit this was a long time coming and felt certain it was bound to happen.

  • An update on Bodog' "situation "

    https://lcb.org/article/costa-rican-office-closed-by-bodog

  • ya know as much as i watch these elections and everything else unfold this calendar year.. i should remind my fellow American country persons that theoretically  or not, to govern and subjugate the individual with political parties is in essence criminal completely ... think about this next time you question a candidate or voting for that matter. Law enforcement of policy nothing more.

  • all I can say is that all these corrupt politicians should be locked behind bars! Americans love and want to gamble. LEGALIZATION NOW !

Also what some of these dumba$$ politicians are failing to recognize or simply neglecting it, is that Uncle Sam will make a lot from the fully regulated gambling market in US. Everyone will be paying the taxes, operators, affiliates and players.

And we all know about the ever growing US debt, so what a perfect way to compensate for some of that loss and boost the profits.

    its a no brainer....

  • I must be getting old because this legalization for online gambling is getting under my skin. My patience is wearing thin with the government and there lousy policy making body of politicians that are in it for their own personal gain. I think it is time for Americans to revolt and say I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE.

    well said 2fast4u,

however not just the taxes. there will be the license and other start up fees. Also i assume, once legalized ( which will happen State by State ), operators would have to submit the proof of their financial liquidity.

This will actually have a great implications for everyone, and improve the security of online gambling as not everyone would be allowed to acquire such license and it will benefit the players most of all.
Once it happens it will help to "weed out" all the shady operations and get the payment processing fast and reliable.

I assume there would be a regulatory body as well, which will control online gambling as such.

But first things first, these politicians need to get cracking...

    Zuga
  • I wonder if there at anytime was any kind of poll or vote ever done asking if Americans want online gaming to be legal, how we as citizens feel about it.. possibly it would be irrelevent anyway.. they want to control and regulate our money hidden behind weirded named politics, laws and bills.. another thought.. how much are they getting out of these quarterly seizures, and what are they doing with it?

  • Hi Imagin,

Washington did pass it until one of the senators shot it down saying there should be a public vote. Those politicians in favor of it worked feverishly in a campaign to pass online gambling and held town meetings and the public voted against it.

I think gamblers are a minority in the large scheme of things and the non-gamblers are fighting it tooth and nail. That right there is not fair because it does not behoove the non-gamblers at all and quite frankly what do they care if we gamblers want to gamble anyway?

This should be a decision made by the government because it is going to do wonders for the US deficit not the people who don't give a hoot about gambling. I think the public vote is what is killing us.

  • I think the public vote is what is killing us

That about sums it up too unfortunately here.

  • Aha.. thank you lips.. im very surprised at that.. and you are right.. what on earth should they care if we want to gamble.. they still have their choice not to...

  • I also want to add that no prohibition in American past gave any results. Take prohibition of alcohol in 1920s as an example. It only created booze smuggling and boosted the organized crime ( especially in Chicago ).

You just couldnt forbid Americans to drink. And you certainly cant forbid them to gamble.

The sooner the politicians get that, the better.

And if they can go to land based casinos then it is hypocritical to deny them to gamble online.

Of course it has to be regulated, and that will benefit everyone. And for those that are against online gambling, I got to say only this : then dont gamble. And problem solved.

    Zuga

  • Or , Zuga, their current war on drugs. Thinking the government employee has to take some sort of Hypocritical oath to take an office. Seriously makes me think of the French Republic of our past doesn't it? Those in power dictating every rule possible and those who know those in office getting fat off the plan .... bourgeois societies.

  • Very good point Zuga.. no matter what you can't forbid us from gambling.. thats why i say results would be irrelevent too much money to not have some sort of control so greed wins hands down..

tobaco was the easiest to put a control on why.. because you can't just grow it in your backyard, roll cigs and make alot of money, enough could not be made to damper that.. but booze.. different story.. build a still and before long you are making 100's of thousands right out your backyard or some small parcel of land in the backwoods.. the big picture, every home could have a pc and gamble online and with this money avoiding taxes.. gambling is too big.. go to any other type of entertaining establishment.. you are paying taxes, they need and want that control..

  • When things do get rolling, I think Nevada and New Jersey will be early adopters due to the experience they have in land based casinos and heavy influence.  Once this happens, the progression should be steady into other states like Florida.  U.S. Players will finally have regulated and good selection of games.  Goodbye RTG forever!

  • Its completely impossible to stop gambling in the U.S. and since everybody knows its only about getting a cut of the money, I dont understand why the government  dont just regulate "Gaming" sites to a certain domain that must be purchased with a certain percentage each year, then the Operator/Owner could adjust to the COS by putting in to effect something similar to poker rakeback and the way some slot tournaments are paid. Or for example, every spin you take at .25, .23 goes to the house, and .02 goes to the greedy. Some rates may go up as far as spending versus receiving, but heck I would pay a few extra bucks here and there to be left the hell alone, and do as I please with what is already my money to begin with.. Right?

  •           I couldn't agree more Jacob,  it's about taxes,  you can tax the s**** out of it and get paid or you can sit back and hope people don't engage in it (knowing full well that they will)  and get nothing.  I don't mind paying taxes, if they regulate it, it would be better, safer for everybody.  (We might even get MG back, wouldn't that be cool!!!).  laugh_out_loud

  • i'd be more than happy to pay taxes if I'm getting a far superior product and service.  Also, you can offset any gains with losses for tax return.

  • Prohibition of alcohol is a classic example and bright observation. I don't care if i am taxed either if it is going to provide good service and fast withdrawals. It all is not complicated and i do not understand all the fuss to get it all settled and allow us back in the game with freedom to play where we want.

  • Funny thing about this all how the Federal US government dictates our rights rather than us individuals declaring them . hmm.

  • I hear ya timwilcob loud and clear. They are so shortsighted and their logic borders with the plane stupidity.

They need to regulate the market period!

  • I haven't heard the freedom bells ring since 2006. "I am proud to be an American, where at least i know i'm free" doesn't quite hold the passion it once did. No matter how ya cut it we are controlled and the biggest control is our bank accounts. We are dictated how we can spend it and encourage a society to use plastic.....charge charge charge and be forever indebted.

I love the US and wouldn't trade where my roots are for the world but lately they letting us down. But i won't give up hope for a better tomorrow when we are all chit chatting about spinning at Microgaming, Cryptologic and Playtech online casinos.
