For the "Big" winners have you been hit up?

Here's something that I have wondered about.

I have seen some winner screenshots and a "Couple" which were quite high (As in value of a nice new car) and was curious.

After you posted, did you receive a PM asking for a loan?

The reason I ask this as I have always thought that "If I hit a big one, I'd prefer to keep quiet as I don't WANT people asking for money"

Has this happened to you?

Not that my winnings have been huge - I answered no.  However, I'm pretty sure that someone would be on the "earhole" for a few bucks if I did win big. 

If they did - they would get a big fat NO way.  I'm sure they wouldn't be prepared to give me half of all my losses over the years

In the summer of 08' I hit an $11 rebuy tournament on Pokerstars for $38k.. I kept it between me and my fiance in spite of renting a house with my brother and a few friends.  Just silently cashed out via echeck and ran off to Laughlin for a week to figure out what we were going to do.

I have also hit a few horse racing ticket's in the 5-10k range, I am also silent about those.. sometimes even to the fiance.

I seem to go in stealth mode, somewhat like Richard Dreyfus in "Let it ride"..well, at least the part of stashing money in my shoes.

Some very nice wins Jocan16 and I can't say I blame you with regards to the "family" but what about on here?

Have you ever posted a big win on a forum and people asked you for cash?

Online..But if you have an offline occurance, that's ok too...

I once worked as a Security Guard for a house that was being built and this turned out to be for M. McGuiness who'd won the Oregon Lotterys biggest amount ($22 million) and I did ask him if he'd been "Bothered/approached" from people begging.

He told me he had a PO box which he would visit once a week and he had HUNDREDS of people sending him letters asking from $5 to half the money he'd won.

This was back in early 1990's. I heard later he had a son who was mentally handicapped and he took about 80% of the winnings and set up a house for him and others who could learn to live outside as "Normal" adults.

That was money well spent!!

I think it is a given that if you win, or even inherit, a large sum of money, there is always going to be people who are going to be asking you for a chunk of it.


There is no way one could help all that ask, but I would enjoy being able to  help my family and  true friends. Also send to my favorite charity.

My father hit the Mini Mega Bucks in Laughlin.. he did all the pictures and interviews such n such. Yes he got hit, for years.. donations, investments, solicitors, old friends, family..

He was generous with all of us, none of the close family members asked for anything he shared the fortune, just like that, but he did start to admit it was getting ridiculous with the phone calls, mail and cousins coming out of no-where lol

Not much of a friend then satansmuff.

I get bummed on at casinos.....sure.  To be honest....if the "asker" is an old fat man, I tell him to get lost!  If the asker is female and looking good....hmmm....well....I am a softie!  She gets a least a few green chips! Hahaha!

What a friend... >:( well at least you found out about who she really is anyhow. It is just too sad to see some people values money over friendship.

In 1996 I won a Carribean Stud jackpot for 206,000 USD. It was all over the news, and the Indian casino I won it at is only 15 minutes away from my house. They put my name in the winners circle they had on a wall becasue I was the biggest winner the casino ever had.

2 days later I was on my honeymoon and I get a call, a so called friend asked if I could wire 200 USD to her so she could try her luck at the same casino. My Reply.... "Are your freakin kidding me? You know I am on my honeymoon, do you really think I would take time to send someone as pathetic as you to send money to? Get real, and do me a favor, the next time you walk into the casino, think about me laughing my ass of at you!".... Click.... hung up the phone and have not talked to her since.

LOL Funny you said that Lips, because I got so excited I had a major asthma attack and they did take me out on a stretcher. We missed our flight for our honeymoon.

Yep most of my friends came over when we got back with champagne and smiles never asked for anything but a glass to make a toast. Trust me, I found out real quick who my real friends were. And they are still good friends today!
