        Hi Members,

We all know the tough economic times that are happening in our world today. Businesses are folding left and right and companies fight to survive the economic storm. But one industry has not suffered and you will never guess what one it is....yep you guessed it..Casinos!

I was just telling this today to a friend of mine. She unfortunately has been unemployed for a few months. She said something that made me realize just maybe why casinos are thriving....she said "i have thought of going several times to try to win some serious cash" Now i might want to mention she is not really even a gambler at heart. Are people like her taking risks to make some extra cash? Is this why casinos are staying alive or is it an escape from tough times.

Why do you think in such a economic storm that casinos are thriving?

This has been a fact throughout time, even back during the great depression there were always 2 businesses that thrive during depressive times, one is show business and the other is, yep you guessed it the casino business, they say its because they are both an escape from reallity and as far as the casinos go its the dream of hitting it big and getting out of whatever bad situation there in.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.  I am sure many people who do not gamble on a  regular basis might find themselves trying out of desperation to win some extra cash, just to get by. I don't know that this is a great idea, as it is hard to win as we all know.  Alot of games take skill and patience over a long period of time. Not for the rookie.  I also agree with Tony that it is such an escape. For that length of time they think of nothing else but what a fun time they are having. Unfortunatly reality is waiting for all of us when our time at the casino is done.

I go to Atlantic City to do my land based gambling, and the reports are that business is WAY down.  Vegas is reporting similar.  However, I strongly suspect that online casinos are doing well.

        Hi Erin,

So true is when a person gambles for the first time and they win...they are hooked! I don't know if thats a blessing or a curse. I remember one of the first times i went to the race track and i won! The first thing my dad said to me was "your hooked now" and i was...i went with him everyweek!
