Will smoking become a thing of the past in casinos everywhere??
Remembering my last visit to the land casino, as I walked thru, it occured to me that the Non-smoking area is becoming larger and larger. When it first started out it was merely a few rows. Now it has become an entire front section of the casino. Even Lobby areas have been given more floor space to Non-smoking. Just last year I sat and enjoyed a smoke inside the Grand entrance by the enormous fireplace, as of this year, it is no longer allowed.  How far will this go?  I know there are casinos with complete floors now designated to the Non-smoking customers. As a few of you know, I am trying to quit smoking, however, even as a non smoker, a casino is a place I would just "expect" there to be smoking allowed.  Do you think the day will come when there are only Non-smoking casinos?     What will this do for the On-line gambling industry?                             PMM2008

        Hi PMM,

Here in Illinois smoking is banned in any public place including casinos. It has really hurt the casinos here as a result. Casinos reported profits way down after the law went into affect on 1/08.

There is designated smoking areas outside of the casino. Law states that smoking is not permitted less than 15 feet from the door. Smoking and gambling go hand and hand. I can understand how it would impact the casino. Many gamblers have flocked to Indiana where smoking is allowed and is only 20 minutes from Chicago.
