When I go to the land casino I always hear the phrase "They have tightened the machines." How exactly is this done? Is it done on each machine seperatly?  Some mechanism inside that gets switched?  I used to own an old Japanese slot machine and it had a switch inside for 3 settings.  Is this how they still operate? Seems like it would take forever in a place as big as a land casino. Also, does anyone know how they tighten up on line casinos?  Computer generated I am sure.
I am so curious if anyone knows the answer to my question. Perhaps someone that used to work for a casino out there?  Thanks in advance...PMM2008

I FOUND THIS SURFNG THE WEB::
First of all the slot machines have a computer chip in them that determines the pay back percentage. These are preset at the factory. In order for a casino to change the pay back, they would have to change the chip. In most jurisdictions there is paper work that has to be filled out and submitted to the Casino Control Commission for each machine if the chip is changed. It is time consuming and the chips are very expensive. Of course a few years from now when some casinos switch to the server based slots they will be able to change the payback with a few mouse clicks.
