UK Bookmaker slots.... (FOBT's)

Anyone have much experience with these machines? They are pretty horrible and you always hear nightmare story's but I have had 2 plays on them over the past month or so.

When I played these years back, I always played blackjack and to be fair had some nightmare experiences. I recall once putting in over £300 and losing the lot in 1 sitting (about 15 mins).

Reluctantly I had a go on them in December as new machine upgrades were done at the local William Hill shop.

Playing £1 a spin on some leprechaun slot (instead of blackjack) I hit 4 of the highest paying symbols for £90 and walked away with £70 profit.

About a week ago I felt like giving it another go. Same leprechaun slot. £2 a spin this time. £50 in. It got me to £70 and kept me around that figure.

Then I noticed a new feature called "Super" and "Mega" spins. The mega spins are where you pay £20 for 4 mega spins (so £5 a spin). It says the spins are enhanced with a higher payout and more chance of winning.

1st set of mega spins paid £30 profit. Second set gave me a bonus round. The bonus was where you press a button, the leprechaun jumps onto different mushrooms, uncovers a prize and carrys on until "collect" is revealed. Surprisingly the bonus round paid very nicely. Kept landing on £30 mushrooms and when collect was revealed I had won £175 from that bonus round.

Cashed out right after which gave me around £200 profit.

Both times recently gave me profit which is also quite bad as i'm having to really restrict myself from playing them again.

I know I was very lucky to win those times considering they are known as the crack cocaine of gambling and you hear time and time again about people losing £1000's in under an hour on them.

I've never played at those slots and after reading your post, I'm not tempted at all. That's way too much money to lose in such a short time.

You did well to cash out, I only tried once and lost my whole balance in under half an hour (balance wasn't big though).

I've only been in a bookmakers once to play the slots and I wasn't too impressed.  I only put 20 quid in and then I left.

Glad you made a profit - I know the mushroom feature you are talking about and if you get all the mushrooms, your win is doubled!  Fairies give you an extra pick and they unlock more than one mushroom.  Great game if you can clear the lot however 175 is very nice indeed.

They are pretty bad. I played them again the other day.... Ended in a loss but in a way i'm glad I did it as I wont be as tempted next time.

Played the same FOBT slot at the William hill in town. Did the same "mega" spins (4 for £20) and I couldnt believe what a reverse of fortunes it was. Lost about £400 on it in town. No bonuses, nothing decent.

Then on the way home I thought I would try the local William Hill that I was lucky at last time... "Mega" spins again. I hit the feature that I won £175 on last time but it only paid £30 this time .

If you get 3 of the top hat scatter symbols you get a "pick me" bonus where you pick 1 of the hats and win the prize underneath. On 1 of the mega spins I hit 2 top hats which meant a respin. Then to my surprise.... 3 more top hats came in .

Actually didn't think it would be anything nice at all but to my surprise when I picked a hat it paid £400 . Cashed out right away which meant for the day I was only about £50 down instead of £400 down.


Some guy on the machine next to me was playing roulette. He mentioned how he had only been in there an hour but was over £600 down already.

You were lucky to end up £50 down instead of £400. 

Incredible that guy lost £600 in an hour but I can believe it.  Best to stay away from them.

yes, there is a lot of storys and videos on youtube about those machines in the bookmakers, one is a very popular channel, forget his name, but he goes into detail of is struggle with gambling on them.

I never used them and i never will ever, they are really bad in my opinion.
