  • I think today was a complete eyeopener for me on how bad any types of gambling are for the pocket.

Recently I came into a fair bit of cash and got paid my wages.

Today went into this 1 pub and simply was robbed by the £70 JP slot machines.

The 1st 1 was a monopoly clone of deal or no deal machines... in went a total of £60, most of it was eaten in 10 mins then on my last few £ it paid out £40. Not a great result on that 1 since in effect I was giving away £20 for 15 mins max of poor entertainment.

Next I played on another machine. It was a "red gaming" machine called "terminator. In total I put in no less than £80... and nope... it gave me nothing. The most I was offered was £5 which I didnt take and the next move was game over. £80 for just 30 mins of entertainment... rubbish

Then on my way home I decided to go in the William Hill betting office and play 1 of their FOBT machines. £60 in on their video slot. Barely even won a thing. Each spin was a 20p spin and the whole balance was gone in 15 mins.

Feeling sooo annoyed about it. Im not bothered as much by the loss but each of the machines were simply there to take my money as quick as they could and not even bother to give me much entertainment at all.

Ahh well. I think thats the complete wakeup call I needed. Best get busy closing them online accounts and handling my money better so none of my money ever touches a slot machine again tongue

  • Sorry to hear about your stroke of bad luck. That's just it.....we never know when lady luck is going to strike. We have highs and we have lows! Unfortnately the lows are much more plentiful.

  • I don't know about the UK, but here in Holland those fruitmachines in arcades and cafe's are usually set to extreme low payout percentages.
I used to play those alot, and lost loads of money over the years.
Until I read somewhere that the payout percentage for those machines are between 70 - 80%!!
Online slots pay a whole lot better!
    Around 95% avarage.

  • hehe,
i know what ya mean, is that where you invented your forumname?
did you finally have  enough of those crapmachines nd started "beuking" against the slots?
    ^^"

  • Hey Sparkz,

I hear what you are saying.  I won't touch those £70 machines with a bargepole.  I think you have to put 3 x the jackpot in to get anything back.  Waste of time they are.

You are right slotbeuker about the percentages - pretty poor in anyones books.  It's not what it says on the label on the machine though that's for sure.

    ROTFL!!

    ....you got me there... embarrassed

But no, no slotbeuking in real life, only in my dreams, haha.

  • yeh the £70jp machines are scandalous. the 1's were a measly 78% payout too.

It really annoys me how a few years back you could buy a pint, use your change in 1 of the machines and a least have 10 or 15 mins entertainment with a few quid.. nowadays though you need to break into a £20 note just to have 5 mins of play.

If i had used the £150 or so I lost in under an hour to gamble online it would of lasted me at very least 4 hours worth of plays and a better chance of winning sad

Totally right there Sparkz - you really do get VFM online in my book.

Do you ever play the £500 machines?  Elvis and the like?  I know someone who put £700 in Elvis in about 2 hrs and she never had a decent win to speak of.  £700 quid - she could have bought herself a nice little car for that kind of dough.

  • i would touch 500 jp machines with a rubber boot. That does sound about right.

It makes me wonder in the arcade how people can sit there... £1 a spin for hours and by the looks of things barely anything dropped out of em. Must have money to burn.

Actually I should of known how badly id lose before I played the 70 jp machines... I do have a machine at home on 78% payout. a "red gaming invincible" machine and its awfully tight at paying anything

  • Wow - always fancied having a slot at home but they are so expensive to buy.

Do you use it as a "piggy bank"?  grin

    blue

  • yea, does me well, all the 5p's 10p's etc go right through to a box at the bottom n its stacking up.

Mine was dirt cheap, less than £80 delivered, on ebay theres loads going cheap there with free delivery. The main mission was moving it into my room, once the guy left i tried dragging it into kitchen door only to find out it wouldnt quite fit through sad. So next day had to move it back through front door, round side door and through other side door.. took a few hours and was just me moving the 125kg thing lol

  • Sounds like it was a bit of a nightmare!

So - will you actually give up the slots in the pubs?  Will you be able to resist?

    blue

  • yea completely was,

i reckon i should be able to now... it feels like a complete wakeup call. No point playing summin i know 100% i wil lose. Its just sad now theres all these £70jp machines everywhere in place of the 35 and 25 jp's. Deal or no deal is the utter worst but spreading like a wildfire sad

  • Well I guess it's a good thing in the long run.

I too will stop playing them if they are all £70 jp.  I won't play the 70''s at all as I already said and as you say, they are taking over from the 35 and 25.  A good way to save money though.

  • was in town yesterday, went into the arcade, 8 deal or no deals!!! lost about 90-100 on them then won 150 on one with a few quid, pure luck though cos usually i'd have lost everything without so much as a tenner back frown

  • deffo blue, id sooner spent a tenner on pints an have em last for a few hours rather than put t in a £70 machine for 2 mins playtime...

ouch at the loss spear... musta been a big chunk of luck... just is horrible how you can put £100 in 1 of em and you think surely based on that it must pay something okish (even ofer a £40 win) but even after that it can still offer a few quid only and then be game over on your next move

Glad you got your money back.

I'm a bit gutted today.  I had to go out for milk etc and decided to pop into the arcade.  Thought about sticking a £20 in Elvis.....if only I had.  It coughed out the £500 more or less straight away.

  • sods law that, I remember being in the arcade a few times. On 1 occasion years ago i was playing on £5 jp machines, usually i go round 3 or 4 specific machines, play em for 2 mins each, then leave, but that time i played a different machine altogether. This guy then came in, won £5 off 2 10p spins on the 1st machine, then got mega streak on another, followed by a few quid on the next and JP on the final machine... they were the 1's i usually played as well...

for me though when i do actually go on em I lose loads, but when i think "im not going to be suckered in and lose my cash" someone else goes on it and wins loads

  • Sods law is absolutely right.

Really gets my goat when that happens.

  • Another HUGE advantage of playing online:
You can't see somebody else empty a machine you just left.

God how I hate that, if I pick the wrong machine in a casino, lol!!
