Sad and good news today. It was announced today that the contender for the Belmont stakes, the last of the "Triple Crown" of racing will NOT run in the race due to a swollen tendon. The news surely hit many bettors with dismay.

But I (For one) am HAPPY that this shows the Owner and trainer REFUSE to bow to the almighty dollar and risk the health of their animal for money, preferring to have a healthy animal instead of a possible crippled horse or even worse.

My hat is off to them for showing compassion for the horse. I think this was a decision which hurt them, but in the long run, will lead to others taking a second look at how they treat their charges.

Super major disappointment for the racing community. There was a lot of excitement if this could finally be the year for the Triple Crown.......sigh. It's an awesome horse who will still be remembered for the first two legs of the race and those who will wonder what might of been.

I'm happy to see consideration for the health of the horse. The horse is alive and well just no longer running on the track. He's a lucky boy to not be forced into racing but it's sad since he was so promising. I read a quote from the trainer that I really liked.

Doug O’Neill: “This is extremely tough for all of us. I’m extremely disappointed, and I feel sorry for the whole team. But the bottom line is it’s not tragic. No one got killed. There are much bigger issues in the world.”
