  • I know we post soooo much about casinos here of course , but I am so proud of this. I bought a 1971 Hydrasports with a 150 hp racing Mercury otherwise known as 'The tower of power'. Dad and I worked hard all winter and had a blast. She rode so well this Summer!!!  See what a little love and elbow grease can do?  Hope you enjoy the before and after pics, friends!

  • That's a nice share.  thumbs_up

  • Very nice Jodi.I wish i was mechanically inclined i would love to re build something. I am sure you had fun doing it and taking it for a spin. You both should be very proud. Thanks for the awesome share. wink thumbs_up

  • Thanks Cranders!  Dad won't be around forever so this project meant so much to me when he said he would help with it. Bonus is that now I'm older and I actually want to listen to him!  Kept me off the laptop too which is always a good thing. wink. Every daughter should be as lucky as I am to have such an awesome knowledgeable dad.

  • Thanks Rena. I have learned so much about boating from him since I was born lol. Boaters license at 13, boaters safety courses at 10, waterskiing, tubing, fixing the engine, properly mixing the gas, parking in the water as well as driving a trailer to launch if I need to. Glad I can pass these things on to my daughter, we have started already. smiley

WOW that is great. Then she can pass it on to her children.
  • That's fantastic Jodi.  You are indeed a very lucky lady, not just to be able to do all those things but also to be able to share them with your Dad.  Kudos to you and kudos to your Dad.

  • very nice.. im so jealous now tongue

  • Thank you Blue and Nirvana. It's so good to know that no matter what happens we built this incredibly awesome toy and spent such good quality time together at a period in our lives that was enjoyable for both of us. This will be passed on down through the generations I'm sure.

Now next time anyone is in Missouri give me a holler and I'll take ya out and show ya what this baby can do!  Tops out at about 75 MPH!!!

  • It made me quite sad reading this post, as my dad was forever pestering me to do a similar project with him for a long time before he passed away - he was a mechanic his whole life and I guess desperately wanted to spend more time with me whilst he had it left. Make the most of the time you have with your parents, thats all I really wanted to say.

  • You are so right about making the most of our time with them. I make it a point to call them both at least once every couple of days. I'm so sorry it made you sad, but think about all of the great accomplishments that your father has watched you make from up above. He's still with you. Head up. smiley

  • Great job Jodi, that boat looks absolutely great!

  • That is amazing. Such a nice story to share, Jodi.

  • Thanks so much guys. Getting ready to pull it out again for the winter and do some more work on it. wink

  • Redoing the transom and putting in new stringers today!  Breaks my heart seeing her torn up like this.

Don't be concerned, your tale may have pulled on my heart strings but also gave me a real pause for thought. I'm confident in hindsight that my dad understood my reasons for not taking up his project at the time and he left me no doubt he was proud of me for what I had achieved in my life. When he was stolen away so suddenly and unexpectedly, it broke my heart, but I take comfort in the fact he left this world proud, and hopefully one day I will complete his ideas myself in his name. Infact that is a promise I have made to myself as a result of your post smiley
  • Awesome!  Would love an update on what you decide to do, please post on this thread!  Can't wait to see it. smiley

Wscalley - I was just about to reply to your first post on page one before even looking at page 2 of this thread. What you said here is exactly what i was going to say you. Having lost both my parents i can truly understand and isn't amazing how we manage to find the place in our hearts where we quit blaming ourselves and quit feeling we shoulda done this, shoulda done that. Where does that strength and new rejuvenated insight come from........a little nudge here and there from our loved ones departed i'd like to think!

Jodi - the boat is fabulous and so glad you shared this with us because it goes to show we ARE more than gamblings! And your post not only inspired other members but me too!  Can't think of better way to have fun then being on a boat. A friend of mine got his boat fixed this summer and we were all gonna go out on it when it broke down again the second it hit the water.........sigh.

  • Thanks Lips!  I plan on keeping you all updated through the winter. smiley

Now to explain the name- El Diamanté Con Monograma. That means 'The Monogrammed Diamond'. My grandmother on my dad's side was my best friend. We lost her at 94 about 4 years ago. She used to tell us 'You better be good or you won't get the monogrammed diamonds!' (Meaning we would be disinherited). Of course there is no such thing as a monogrammed diamond, but to this day my family members say the same thing to all the little ones.

So I had to honor her in some way. Here's my 'Monogrammed Diamond'. wink

  • Stringers are in!!!!  Tomorrow axials go in and then new flooring gets laid!  WOOT!

  • just turn your laptop on its side to view please frown

  • I simply love it Jodi. That is one cool project you have there  thumbs_up smiley worn_out.

Easier to turn my head laugh_out_loud

  • Hahahaha Blue!  wink

  • Did you guys know what B.O.A.T. stands for?

    Boat
    ;) wink wink

  • Axial supports are glassed in, beginning to fit the flooring!

  • Oh wow coming along so nicely! Definitely a masterpiece in progress  wink

  • Now it doesn't seem like "a little winter project" anymore. smiley So much work, but at least you're not doing it alone.

  • Just kind of funny how we made it all pretty and shiny last winter just to tear it apart again this year haha!  Dad has always wanted another racing boat since I was little and I think that this is his way to get around the argument with his wife lol!

  • Ordered the new paint last week as well. So excited can't wait for next summer. Feeling very blessed today to have such a great dad and be able to do this with him. Thanks for letting me share it with you all, since I deactivated my Facebook page now I have a forum here for it!

  • Got the flooring all fit, cut, and fiberglassed in. Now we're working on foaming between the bottom of boat and flooring. Coming along swimmingly!

  • No idea why all my pics post sideways sorry about that guys.

  • It's coming on a treat Jodi.

No idea why all my pics post sideways sorry about that guys.

It's doing my neck in laugh_out_loud
  • Getting ready to paint and put rain channels in!

  • What an amazing project and so much fun to watch it's progress!

  • Hey guys if you are wondering why I haven't updated it's deer season here so dad and I are in the woods. smiley

  • Oh no don't kill the deer!

  • Very nice boat. I like it cause it can be relaxing from time to time. It is interesting what one can do, it is just the matter of being willing to do it. Nice job!

  • Lips don't worry I haven't whacked any monsters yet. But it is interesting to me because I am a vegetarian and have been for years. People are so against hunting but will eat meat from Walmart or wherever but what I am doing is simply affording my family a sustainable lifestyle with meat that is antibiotic and hormone free. So much healthier than buying from a store.

Thanks kindofrelease!  Love this boat and have had a blast updating my LCB family and working on it with dad. smiley

  • Dad and I are jamming to Janis Joplin and sanding and ferring the top half today!  (Probably for the remainder of the week too lol.). Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.

    *no bloody deer pics included*

  • Got the top sanded and painted!  Kind of a bad pic because of all the ice crystals but she's looking good!

  • Also cut the cushion templates, put epoxy overlay and laid foam inserts and covered with vinyl!  Woot woot!

  • Looking great so far Jodi.  Is there a lot more to do?

  • Looking great so far Jodi.  Is there a lot more to do?

Well I guess 'a lot more to do' is relative?  laugh_out_loud I think most of the labor intensive things are done, now mostly electrical and putting it back together again...  She's a modern day Humpty Dumpty!
  • Everything seems to be in order. smiley It's going to be ready for a bit nicer weather.

  • Ski rope pylon is up and some cushions are in!

  • Looks great Jodi. I can not wait to see the finished project  wink  smiley. I bet it will be one awesome sight to see.

  • Shake and Bake!!!!  Yeehaw!!!!

Put her in the water yesterday and she rides like a Caddy baby!

  • All the hard work and effort was worth it then  cool

  • Looks awesome Jodi, great work!
