  • Hiya Members,

Abortion is a very controversial issue. There are many reasons that women choose to abort their unborn child. Rape....women that can not afford to care for a child….health risks in pregnancy are some reasons to name a few.

Are you for or against abortion. Is there exceptions to the rule?

    Lips
  • Considering I had one when I was 17, I believe we have the right to choose.....When it comes to abortions we all have different reasons for making the choice whether it's something as complex as rape or something as simple as just not wanting the responsiblity......I don't think anyone has the right to judge another persons choice...If it's not affecting you directly then it's none of your business.......and I believe that with EVERY choice a person makes not just on abortions!!

  • It is a womans right to decide if she wants to abort her pregnancy. Ceratinly health issues are a very legit reason to not have the child.  Other reasons range from being to young, not financially able, and rape just as Lips mentioned.
It is going to be different for different women. Certainly women who were raised to believe it was wrong to abort will not go thru with it, yet women who were not raised to believe it was wrong will likely not give it as much thought as those that were taught it was wrong. Your religious beliefs are a huge factor in this one.

I was not taught etheir way. The subject never came up in my house which is odd considering I have three older sisters.
If an unwanted pregnancy happened to me, I would likely have the child and give it up for adoption.  Thats just me.

  • I am against the government telling us what to do with our private lives.  Thus, woman should have the ultimate decision to choose.  However, I think it is important that when making that decision we remember the unborn are not cabbages.

  • I can "Understand" about the situations of rape, incest, health and mental effects if the female was "Forced" to give birth.

I tend to disagree in making it available just because someone didn't care to have "Protection"

However, in the end, I'd let the female decide of course.

I agree completely with satan! I see too many kids having kids...(sigh~) in these days what could possibly young kids themselves do with little babies...how are they suppose to take care of kids? how, why, what...I wonder!!!  It is one of the reason why I believe in abortion when needed to be done for right reasons.

(One of my friend has a son who is 16 and was born with down syndrome...now she regrets and regrets...believe me that she loves him that is not a question but...was it worthy for them?)
  • It's really very controversial question!  ::) ::) ::)
Generally I'm against it! I consider abortion as a murder! But in the same time I completely agree that it's only women's right to choose and make any decision!! There can be cases in life when there's no other way...

  • This is quite the controveral subject, so many views.  In my opinion abortion is wrong, on almost all levels.  I believe that God is the only one who should decide whether a person, especially a baby, should live or die.  If a person honestly believes that they can't afford a child, there is adoption, and so many families out there that would love the opportunity to give a child a great life.  I have a 3 year old daughter, who means more than the world to me, and when I got pregnant, there was no other options is my mind, other than having her, and doing my best to provide for her.  I gave up a lot when I had her, I used to have money, a high paying job, and the freedom to do as I pleased.  Thanks to her dad, who not only provides for her, but me as well, I am able to stay at home, and raise her myself.

  • misty.....your post points out my thoughts.  While there are certainly tragic human circumstances where an abortion **may** be necessary, we do have to keep in mind this is not plant life we are dealing with.  While I support a woman's right to make an ultimate decision in this matter, there is something (to me) about the pro-choice movement that cheapens life.

  • I agree the pro-choice movement has indeed cheapened the value of life.  Just because something is legal doesn't make it moral.  I believe that there may be very few situations that could warrent the occassional abortion, but when women are having abortions more often than they are getting their teeth cleaned, there is a definite problem with that.  They are looking at it as a birth-control method, and in turn thousands and thousands of babies are being killed each year, very sad.

  • A very interesting subject with some great replies.

Personally, I do not think any woman should abort a healthy child although I do believe in freedom of choice.

Its certainly not something I could ever have done.

  • Medicaly speaking in the first 10 weeks a "baby" is just an embryo....it doesn't start to form into a fetus until the end of the first trimester......an embryo is just a bunch of cells, no form, no body, no nothing........in reality although no one likes to think of it this way, it's no different than cancer, just a growth of cells inside your body, but no one thinks twice about destroying those kind of cells............now don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying that's what I feel on this matter, it's just medical terms I'm stating. We just happened to be discussing the human body and functions and all this kind of stuff in school last week...........................

  • Actually by 8 weeks, the baby has a brain, face,,eyes ears, mouth and of course a beating heart.  Something cancer cells does not.  Like mentioned several times above, very controversal subject.  But we all have our own opinions on the matter, and I respect that, and I would never judge a person for their decisions in life, as I have not walked in their shoes.

  • Oh, maybe it was 8 weeks then, but still in the embiotic stage it is nothing more than a bunching of cells.....once it becomes a fetus then it's an actual baby developing...Something else I found out in school was the surpising rate of miscarriages that we women aren't even arware of.....I was told that just like cancer [which is why I used that comparison] that when a change occurs in our body we tend to reject it and with pregnancies our bodys way of dealing with the change is to abort it......It happens so early on that most women this happens to didn't even know they were pregnant!!  Makes me wonder how whoever came up with this theory figured this out if no one knew they were pregnant in the first place!!

  • Are you in nursing school, you seem to have a lot of knowledge of human body and anatomy?  Or medical school?

  • Actually, I'm going for massage therapy, but I still have to take all those classes........

  • hmmmm..although in my heart i would want her to keep the baby, i would stand behind and support the decision of my girlfriend. Which ever way she decides I will support it. However since i don't have a girlfriend and especially a girlfriend who is pregnant i have to admit that I could only speculate as to what i would do or how i will react. there is one thing that does erk me though. i was  told that free will is a gift - a gift that gives us the ability to make choices. whether they be good ones or bad ones. i feel that if the decisions we make only affects those involved then it is the business of only those involved. so much energy could be better served helping or supporting other things than mingling in the lives or business of others. what good does it do to stick you nose where it doesn't belong and in doing so, making life harder or worse for those who have made their decisions and just want to get on with their lives.

  • BRAVO......very well said Soda!

  • BUT....there is one law that i would lobby for...especially since it is now illegal to drive and talk on your cellphone (unless using a handsfree device)...i think it should also be illegal to pick your nose and drive too not only is the driver not focusing on the road but it's distracting and disgusting for others who drive byand have to see it. i think if the police were to start asking at a scene of an accident whether or not the drivers involved were picking their noses while they were driving we would all be surprised by the statistics...no doubt the numbers gotta be up there. either that or a lot of false statements.

a perfect example of where of a choice that doesn't just affect the driver...it affects us all!!! all those that have to see that finger going up the....nuff said...

    NO MORE DRIVING NOSE PICKERS!

  • Soda,

No one has a gun to your head and is forcing you to look at the booger picker!!!! People complain that they don't like it...but can give a blow by blow description of the nose picker. You just can't resist looking can you...........roflmaooooooooo!!!

I think its bad enough to pick your nose in public, just don't flick it!!!!

    Lips
  • Come on guys.....boogers, burps, farts...ect.....it's not gross, EVERYONE does it, it's a part of being human...I never understood why people make fun of, or are embarrassed by the actions as if everyone else doesn't go home after a good meal and take a s***!!  And yeah, it stinks...oh well!!

  • Well it sure ain't pretty.
  • LOL satan, burps and farts are excusable.  But picking your nose in PUBLIC is just gross!!  I am not talking about blowing ur nose or using a tissue to get a booger, but FINGER PICKIN boogers in public is just gross!!

    Back to the topic.................

It is the woman's right to choose.  Men don't carry the fetus, go through ANY changes, give birth AND most of them aren't even around to care for their child.  I don't judge ANYBODY and could care less if some1 wants to judge me!!!  (I don't really give a sh*t about some1 else's opinion)  I could go on and on about this.  Since in MY opinion it isn't a "baby" unless it could survive outside of the womb, which has NEVER happened prior to the 21 week of pregnancy.

The "most premature baby" was born at 21 weeks 6 days.  About 20 to 35 percent of babies born at 23 weeks of pregnancy survive, while about 50 to 70 percent of babies born at 24 to 25 weeks, and more than 90 percent born at 26 to 27 weeks, survive.

I decided to check the Encyclopedia for definitions-  Wikipedia

EMBRYO-  is a multi cellular diploid eukaryote in its earliest stage of development, from the time of first cell division until birth, hatching, or germination. In humans, it is called an embryo until about eight weeks after fertilization (ten weeks LMP, last menstrual period), and from then it is instead called a fetus.

FETUS-  is a developing mammal or other viviparous vertebrate after the embryonic stage and before birth.

I also found this statement in the encyclopedia.  Fetuses are not capable of feeling pain at the beginning of the fetal stage, and will not be able to feel pain until the third trimester.  At this point in development, uncontrolled movements and twitches occur as muscles, the brain and pathways begin to develop.

  • Satan, Lips, Shelli...others -

i didn't say to ban nose picking altogether - just while driving. it worst than talking on the phone and driving. you know when u pick you can't but help cock your head to get the best finger penetration without ripping skin. And they vary from the rim clingers to the deep nuggets. Snagging those rim clingers we can let slip but when digging for those nuggets and while driving??? no way...u know your focus is more on that nugget than on the road and then when u do get it u know your eyes are off the road cause you're going to look at it....and then your mind gets occuppied cuz now you're thinking where to put it and how you're gonna get it off your finger which now brings your eyes off the road again. And while you are looking around for something you are driving with one hand that's useless as you avoid touching anything with it. i say if you gotta pick...park it.

lips - when you are out for a drive and so happen to glance over to your right or left and see someone digging deep...don't tell me you don't do a double take...heck u might even be inclined to do a triple...nobody that's human can do a single...if anyone says that he or she does...LIARS!!!

oh and yea shelli i agree with you....men don't carry the fetus

  • LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!  I BET YOU CAN HERE ME LAUGHING IN CANADA.

THE DOUBLE TAKE STATEMENT REMINDS ME OF WHEN SOME1 SAYS, "EWWW THAT STINKS"  WHY DO WE HAVE TO TAKE A DEEEEEEEP WIFF!!!
  • I have to say that this topic....whilst a very serious discussion has gone off on a tangent which truly has made me laugh.  grin tongue

Soda - you're right, we can't just do a single look, in fact we are probably mesmerised by it because we want to know exactly what they are going to do with it once they reach and extract their "goal".  I think the biggest "ewww" will come out when the finger starts making its way to the mouth.....

....and back to the topic.  I would not judge someone who had an abortion because of their financial circumstances or some other medical or non medical reason and I think the trauma of having an abortion stays with that woman for the rest of her life.  I don't know anyone who has had an abortion but I would be sure in my mind that a day would not go by when they didn't think....what if....

  • Lol....thanks for looking that up Shelli, I almost felt stupid when I said it was an embryo until 10 weeks and was later corrected with 8....Damn it...I knew I heard 10 somewhere lol!!!! But yeah, thats pretty much what I saia in simple terms......good to see my memory isn't failing me...[in high school I would forget lessons by the next morning]

  • Soda,

I never ever said i don't look.....rflmaoooooooo! All i am saying is if it bothers peeps...don't look!!!!!!

I for one am the first one to say..."oh look look at this one"!!!

I think we should start snapping pics of peeps picking there nose and start a thread on it. It would be hilarious!!!

  • In all serious and back to topic........

Although females have to go through the pregnancy and delivery, should the baby's father have a say in it? We are talking about a child that is his as well.

I personally don't think it's fair not to give the father a choice in the decision. Being pregnant is only 9 months. Having a child is a lifetime commitment.

I am very open minded and not quick to judge anyone on the choices they make. But i do think it should be discussed by both partners involved. Of course this would be only in a situation where your in a committed relationship or where the father would be part of the child's life.

  • Lips......Soda......I just picked my nose....it was a big one, green and slimy with red around the edges.........should I upload a picture of it?

in fact, i think the man should be able to influence or at least discuss his views and opinions. And should be given an opportunity to plea his case if he is in favour of keeping the baby. However, for some reason, if it is not...then i don't think he has the right to say anything at all. i can already vision that his body language and attitude towards the woman would be enough for the women to figure out where he stands. the father may have his choice and has every right to express his feelings and reasons for his choices...but the final decision still rests upon the woman.

Congratulations! Satan i believe what you have found is called a booger

What is a booger made of?

    Main Entry: boog·er
    Pronunciation: /BOO - grr/
    Function: noun
Etymology: alteration of English dialect buggard, boggart, from 1bug + -ard Date: 1866
    1 : BOGEYMAN
2 : a piece of dried nasal mucus

Boogers are mucus (myoo-kuss). Mucus is the thin, slippery material that is found inside your nose. Many people call mucus snot. Your nose makes nearly a cupful of snot every day. Snot is produced by the mucous membranes in the nose, which it moistens and protects.

When you inhale air through your nose, it contains lots of tiny particles, like dust, dirt, germs, and pollen. If these particles made it all the way to the lungs, the lungs could get damaged and it would be difficult to breathe. Snot works by trapping the particles and keeping them in the nose.

After these particles get stuck inside the nose, the mucus surrounds them along with some of the tiny hairs inside the nose called cilia. The mucus dries around the particles. When the particles and dried-out mucus clump together, you're left with a booger!

Boogers can be squishy and slimy or tough and crumbly. In fact, boogers are a sign that your nose is working properly.

  • Should I take a picture and upload it for you?!      cheesy

  • Abortion to boogers.....wow!  I love this LCB!

  • Lips do you have any kids??  Cuz u said "only 9 months" I was violently ILL for about 6 months with my second son and bed ridden for 3 of those months.
