  • Thank you froggy what a great cause!
  • Funny! I may not agree with greyhound racing, but how many of you are gonna agree with this, yet go out and buy a few storebought turkeys and hams? wink

  • dtsweet....would you please stop confusing things with LOGIC!  laugh_out_loud

Very true.  We tend to have our "pet" issues; yet, we won't apply the same reasoning we passionately bring to our pet issues to other areas of our lives.

  • You two are killin' me

Are you suggesting that in order to justify true concern for the abuse of animals, one must  become a vegetarian? Does the fact that I eat turkey make my concerns on an issue such as this illegitimate? Just curious.

There ARE humane methods of bringing turkey to our table. If you'd like, you may donate to that cause as well.

  • Hi Froggy,

Thanks very much to even take the time and concern about such cruelty to this animal. The fact you even took the time to post this, you have done more than most  would have.

I heard one story while i was in the car one day where some SOB who raced greyhounds took his dog who could no longer race and tied him to a tree and burned him alive because he was mad that he could no longer make him money.

Yeah,  it would be nice to save the turkeys and the hams and every other living thing in this world. I suppose we could all start eating vegetable and plant life, but then again thats a living thing as well.....

There is cruelty across the board to all animals from the slaughter houses to pet owners. You made a stand somewhere froggy and it's greatly appreciated.

  • LOL, I AM a vegetarian...I give the same value to the unattractive turkey as the 'cute' bunny...I don't favour the kissable ones
I have to admit, if I were starving, and it came down to me or the deer, the deer is going down
But as it stands we ain't kind to the farmed and boxed animals..least the greyhounds get to run lol

  • Sad a topic so righteous had to lose the focus and almost make someone feel guilty for caring laugh_out_loud
  • lol, not at all. It IS a good cause, I was just reminding others not to become too indignant at the plight, while turning round and doing the same in another regard

  • Well Froggy, I can see your point. Yes, there is abuse with dog racing. But what about the other animals who are used in similar style?

Also, what about the people involved in the track, but not with the dogs? The cooks in the resturant, the ticket sellers, the vendors and other track employees.

Let's not forget the people who sell to the track emplopyees. such as grocery stores, clothing shops and gas stations. How this changes when you shut a facility like this down.

I appreciate your stand, but it would hurt so many, not too mention the loss of revenue for the local area and state.

  • Screw em. lol. Serving to minors is less sales for beer and liquor stores but that doesn't mean we should

  • Good job!  Well....we humans have a high ability to CARE.  We often tend to ultra-focus on an area we feel is VERY imporant......logic isn't important for the moment.  The heart leads!

  • Doc,

Sometimes you are......affective, arousing, awakening, breathless, dynamic, eloquent, emotional, emotive, expressive, facund, far-out, felt in gut, grabbed by, gripping, heartbreaking, heartrending, impelling, impressive, inspirational, inspiring, meaningful, mind-bending, mind-blowing, motivating, persuasive, poignant, propelling, provoking, quickening, rallying, rousing, sententious, significant, something, stimulating, stimulative, stirring, stunning, touching............

This is one of those posts  wink

  • ah-nuts, I gotta throw my 3 cents n here, lol. When your talking cruelty to these animals, (greyhounds) is it the fact that you see them, or visualize them, running on a track, and there straining to win the race, or does it have to do with their handlers? .................

That's like comparing apples and oranges.  Simply as it is illegal and dog racing is legal.
  • Why only Florida?  Do the Floridians (especially the Tampons, lol, just kidding) want votes from out of state?

Soon enough maybe sporting events will all be virtualized and not use real animals.  People included.

  • very true chiily. Greyhound and Whippet raceing, is far from illegal in Florida. I use to own a whippet, (minature greyhound) and I can say this with 100% accuracy, those dogs not only need to run, they love it. Their very mellow inside the house, but once they feel the fresh air, they literaly beg their owner to let them run. I'd say, that dog was the best dog I ever had, period.

  • Why only Florida?

Florida is one of only seven states in the U.S. in which dog racing still exists.
  • I'm pretty sure we have it in Texas.  There is a Greyhound racetrack in Corpus Christi (or was...I dunno).  I've also seen projects for adopting the greyhounds.  They are beautiful animals, and built for running for sure!

It is the inhumane way they are treated. Owners who toss them out like yesterday's newspaper because they no longer have the stamina to run like they once did.
  • Lips....I really liked, and appreciated, the "stimulating" designation!  Thank you!

But....Yes...its true.  When people get emotional over things like animals, logic functions on a totally different realm.

  • Lips, I can feel this is an important subject to you. Rest assured, I don't condone any animal cruelty, whether it be dogs, horses, chickens (cock fighting). None of that is right.
Did you see an article, or something on the news, regarding a miss treated animal? Because, if someone is caught miss-treating those dogs, or horses for example, there are heavy fines, and suspension.
The dogs themselves, they truely enjoy running. This is fact. If you get 12 or 13 years of life, out of 1 of those dogs your doing excellent. They will want to run untill they do die. To finish, when the dog gets older, it may not be as competitive or as fast when it was younger, if the owners or handlers are caught miss-treating them, there through. Normaly what happens, (and we all know NORMAL is not a good word to use) when it's time for the dog to retire, it's either used for breeding, adopted out, or euthinized as humainly possible.
Believe me when I say, I'm not attempting to change, or influence anyone in here. We all have our own opinions. This is the other side of the coin, let's say.
