  • The reason i'm posting this is to give warning and tips to travelers, i worked as a maid (service/room attendent) in a few of the hotels here in vegas.. mind you by the sounds of this, but infact it was a very good job to have, i earned very high wages on top of substancial amounts in tips, out of everything i have ever down this was my favorite.
But infact bedbugs are there, when the hotels do find evidence of them the rooms are shut down and it is taken care of right away, everything is removed (thrown out), exterminators come, the rooms are cleaned thoroughly and all new stuff is put back in, now this is what has happened in the hotels i have worked in.
Best thing to do is if you are traveling, check your bed (infact ask them to come put clean sheets while you watch), the bugs hang out near the headboards, if there is an infestation you will see them right away.
I'm telling you, your sheets might not be as clean as you think, maids have been caught slacking on changing them when a guest has come for a few hours of sleep and left, yes they come along and just make the bed clean up somewhat and to the next. (no thats disgusting i have never done this).. anyways read on..

Victoria Secrets,Abercrombie & Fitch, and Hollister temporarily closing their doors due to bedbugs..............

So how worried should you be? First, the good news: Bedbugs are not passed from person to person—they’re only attached to humans for five or ten minutes while they feed on blood (ick factor: 10!). But—and here comes the bad part—they can jump onto your clothes, or into your handbag or shopping bag. And if they do, they’re on a free ride to your place.

It’s often hard to spot bedbugs, but they’re flat, oval, rust-colored creatures, up to a quarter-inch long. There are several look-alike insects. Also inspect your furniture, mattress, and curtains for little brown spots, which are bedbug droppings. And be alert for small itchy red bumps in clusters or a row on your skin, signs the critters are feeding on you.

If you suspect you have them, call in a professional exterminator as soon as possible. In the meantime, remove all bed linens and wash—along with towels and potentially contaminated clothes—in hot water. Then dry them using the hottest setting on your dryer. You’ll have to wash your sheets often, at least every three days, until the infestation is gone.

Also, thoroughly scrub furniture, flipping over nightstands and removing drawers. Vacuum all cracks and crevices in furniture; also vacuum along the walls. Then dispose of the vacuum bag or empty the canister immediately (deposit contents in a plastic bag, tie it off, and put it in the outdoor garbage can). Repeat frequently until the infestation is cleared.

To avoid taking them home from stores in the first place, keep your handbag and other totes off carpeted floors and furniture. In dressing rooms, hang your bags and jacket on the hook. If you really want to be proactive, as soon as you get home take off your clothes and throw them, along with your new purchases, in the wash. And steer clear of hot spots by checking out The Bedbug Registry for reports of bedbugs in hotels, apartments, and stores. You won’t believe how many swanky hotels are bedbug-welcoming!

They can have a somewhat darker or even black like a flea look to them.

Anyways be aware and take a few moments to inspect, i have seen bedbug attacks on a few guests and some were horrifying to see. It is not that the hotel is dirty it is how this bug travels, in suitcases, handbags, clothing etc.

  • Hey Imagin that is pretty cool to know after only hearing disgusting horror stories that there are good hotels that shut down and take care of these problems.  I don't care how high end of a hotel I stay at I always take off the comforter cause I'm paranoid lol.

  • Yes, they will shut down the rooms affected and take immediate action, they don't mess around with it, and yes good idea, the bedspread or comforter is not always removed and new or clean one put every time, most people do fold up and store the bedspreads in the closet, blankets as well.. in a hotel i stay at i ask for extra sheets, usually the maid will come and do this for you, i always did it for my customers, but for me what i do is 2 sheets as bottom, one sheet next, blanket, then another sheet on top this is how i do my rooms when i travel, then the standard one sheet bottom, one sheet next then blanket...

And yes i have horror stories lol

  • Do you know?....How do the bugs get there to begin with?  From other people?  They're typically near the headboards...so...do they feed on wood (in addition to human blood;they sound like little vampires)?

Thanks..I'll be chillin in the pool.  : )

  • They don't travel from human to human, like say lice, they are only on the human long enough to feed on the blood, they hide in the daytime and come out at night to feed, in hotels they get near or behind the headboards (headboards are usually screwed to the wall it makes a safe haven for them) or things that can hide them that are stable, along base boards, im guessing for survival to stay out of the way.. they attack while you are sleeping

The sheets are usully white or light in color if you pull the matress just slightly from the headboard, if there is an infestation you will see them or evidence. Mainly in the hotels they are behind the headboard. To me it seems like they are just waiting and ready when you sleep lol

They come from travelers that carry them in, say suitcases or purses, clothing, they don;t live on the human though

  • Summer camp in Texas...ahh...

Where you open the drawers and find centipedes, open the door and find walking sticks, open the shower curtain and find daddy long-legs.

They called these other bugs bedbugs.  Not your run-of-the-mill bedbugs described here.  Obviously, they were wrong in naming them.  They looked kinda like a big stink-bug, but had a long snout with a big round end, and yes, they were bloodsuckers.

Only, they didn't leave your regular bite marks, or red bumps, and didn't itch.  In fact you would not know you had been "bitten" unless you saw the little trail of hickies they left behind (or everyone was laughing at you because the hickies were on your face).  Little eraser-sized hickies...yep...

the worst part of your encounter was thinking how you had slept through that big bug walking on you and sucking on your face (or other body  part).  They weren't very small bugs.

Here in Castroville it's all fire ants, preying mantises, and then those big scary scarab beetles (don't forget mosquitos also).

  • Theres 2 things here that scare me, thats the scorpions and the head lice, the scorpions live in the fat palm trees we have, buit when they decide to invade your house, they are every where.. main places are your shoes and toilet paper rolls, imagine that goto wipe and aaaaaahhhh.

The head lice was a few years back at epidemic levels, even to call it super lice, everyone was having a hard time trying to rid them, they were seemingly immune to the medicines. it was like every single child had them no kidding.. Few years before this my daughter caught a case the first time i allowed her to spend the night at a friends.. days laters, get a call from the school on a routine headlice check, all hell broke loose in my house, freaked me out, i was almost crying, we got lucky though her case was not severe at all and caught quickly. But it is alot of work to get rid of them.

  • ... and toilet paper rolls, imagine that goto wipe and aaaaaahhhh.

    literally,.. Oh Shit!  lmao
  • LOL yeah, then after that you goto put your shoes on to goto the hospital and aaaah again lmao

  • Last bug on my toilet paper was a german cockroach.
It ended up dead on the floor in front of the sink.
the next evening, as I stumbled in without my glasses, I saw it still there.  But after I sat down, I saw the german cockroach was on the floor still but somehow had moved over to the other side of the room.  So what was that in front of the sink on the floor?  OMG a FAT scorpion.  I was barefoot, 1/2 blind, without a weapon or can of raid so I grabbed a magazine I was no longer interested in, threw it on top of the scorpion and hopped up and down for a few seconds.  Every time I went back in there I stomped some more.  Had to wait for a man to show up to dispose of both bugs for me.  I can only do that if I have to-or am pissed off enough.

I tell Jake "your girlfriend's dead in the bathroom again, would you go get her outta there for me, please?  Man!"

  • LMAO CHILLY!!!!

  • we get these..

    vinegar spidars i call them

and these... they even crawl across the ceiling above your head!!

    and these....

    super lice

  • and these....

Dam! Just the thought of them possibly being in the house, I dont think I'd be able to sleep.  Are all scorpions poisonous?

    lol funny
  • No, the ones here are but not deadly, well maybe if alergic and you don't get treatment, i've never been bit, but i have friends that have, they say it is excusiatingly painful, she got bit when she stuck her foot in her shoe without checking...

Found a wolf spidar here once it had babies by the thousands on it's back, we didn't know it, it's back looked like a big porous shell, we put it in a jar when we caught it, shook the jar a little and the babies all fell off.. we freaked out..

also as they fell off the babies all ran right back onto her back... weird!

heres a picture of it... click picture to view it better

  • imagin do you get sun spiders too?  Those are gross.  We don't get much here but someone I know lives in a desert area near nevada I think and they get all kindsa creepy stuff.  I wouldn't leave my house if I lived there, but then again things are inside too.  I'd totally move.

  • Gosh! None of those exist in Serbia, thank God! Not even bed bugs. But thanks for the topic, now I know what I should be aware of when I'm traveling abroad!

  • The most abundance of any bugs we have here are crickets, they used to say that crickets are goodluck.. but i don't know now, the 1000's in my yard and the noise they make i should be well endowed with tons of luck lol..

Fleas we don't have any, california was infested with them, but here they are almost non existant, so our animals are spared, mosquitos too theres not many here due to the climate, spidars.. almost every kind of spidar is here, i've seen a madagascar roach (had to of been at least 6 inches long) once at a circle k had me freaked out for weeks, how and why it was here i have no idea, a las vegas radio show was running a contest one time a 1000.00 for the person to bring in the biggest roach, the strangest think i ever saw was something that looked like a beetle, black body red wings about the size of a tennis ball, and the most scariest thing was once we got hit by grasshoppers by the millions, so many it was like a grasshopper blanket, they were here for one day and just as they came they left.. but as they were coming in they were getting all on us, our hair, clothes, in the cars..
