In a video that has rapidly gone viral, an average New Yorker has demonstrated exactly what is required: an entourage, crazed photo snappers and confidence.

A guy named Brett Cohen, a 21-year-old student of the State University of New York, and a friend recently decided to shoot video of Cohen walking around New York’s Times Square with all of the aforementioned elements. Their mission: to find out whether he would be treated like celebrity.

        Here's what happened:

Omfgggggg this is beyond hilarious and what a brilliant idea! I don't know what got me more, the music, the fake star or the people who pretended to know who he was.

        Totally loved it.

Lol, too funny! So, either these people actually thought they knew him or, they're just lil fibbers

        Thanks for the laugh, Johnny

this is tooooo funny......people get caught up in the mob and routinely show their asssess hahahahah.  I experienced something similar to this as a junior in highschool......i was a second string sucky varsity football player on a powerhouse team...our team was one of the best in the state and a regional newspaper was going to run a story on the top teams and their stars.....well four players from the top teams were going to grace the cover of the special football insert....for whatever reason (a joke i think) my team had me go for the cover shoot.......the other three players were the stars of their team...we were treated like freaking NFL stars that day,  nobody ever figured out I wasnt a key player at all but assumed i was the quarterback........my mother bought about twenty copies of the newspaper and laminated them all hahahaha.....i think she still has them too...that was the highlight of my football career !

Good stuff, and how funny, dabidog.  I felt almost the same way when I was in Obama's inaugural parade.  I was only there by the confangled way of my mom's second husband's first wife's first husband and that being designated as him being my great grandfather.  But I and all in the parade got the American equivalent of Royal Treatment.

People get excited by celebrity, and it does boost a person's ego by being, however briefly, personally in the experience.  Like me getting such a kick out of Obama's personal day.

All the people in the video surely went home and bragged about their experience to their friends, who then went home and bragged about their friend with the celebrity to their other friends.

Sometimes it's fun being human, sometimes it's just too darn funny!

That was fun to watch but I will never understand why people are so obsessed with celebrities.
