We had Thanksgiving at my sister in laws....was lovely.
If I don't host Thanksgiving, I always make the entire dinner for our own family on Saturday.
Tried something new and grilled the turkey. OMG... Drool!!!
If nobody has tried this..you have too!
Best to use an old fashioned charcol grill.
Place a disposable foil tin on the bottom center. Place coals around the tin. (Have to cook the turkey using indirect heat).
Place the grate on and the turkey on the grate.
Open all vents.
Cook a 20lb turkey for about 4 - 4/12 hours, dropping extra coals through the sides of the grate about every hour.
Make sure to add a sliced apple/onions in the cavity. Pour some veg. oil on top of the turkey. Add salt/pepper, poultry seasoning and whatever else spices you like.
Of course it was drizzling and windy on Sat so I only could cook the turkey for 1/2 hours before moving it to the oven but it still had that smoky grilled flavor.
*If you only have a gas grill, turn on one side and cook the turkey on the other*
